1910 dog tag

Found a 1910 Alton IL. Dog tax tag. I wonder what the oldest one found is?

Neat. I believe the oldest known American dog license tag was dated 1853 and issued by the Corporation of Fredericksburg in Virginia.

Red-Coat ~ actually, the first city in the USA to mandate a dog to wear a tag on it's collar was Charleston SC in 1850. Those tags are the holy grail of dog tags. They were made by the same metal smith that made the slave tags in that area.

Tokens and dog tags are my favorites too! I was lucky enough to find an 1894 one too!

That is a nice old dog tag. I have seen a few from the late 1800's. My personal oldest is a 1923 tag from Illinois.
