This is not a recent find but didn't know where else to post it (so I apologize to the moderator if this is the wrong spot). I just watched the show "Strange Inheritance" about the story of the missing 1913 V nickle of which only 5 are known to exist. The last one to be sold 3 years ago went for $3.2 million, and it reminded me of my excitement from a few years ago. I dug a very corroded nickle in a fertilized farm field, and for some reason I kept seeing a "3" for the last digit of the date. It was kind of an optical illusion of sorts since depending on which way you looked at it you could see either a "2" or a "3". I knew it was a one in a million longshot, but I sent the coin in for authentication and, of course, it came back as 1912. But after watching the show I decided to pull it out again. I can see where it could be either number, but for some reason the "3" still wants to jump out at me. I wanted to see what others think so consider this a survey of sorts. But hurry and vote before it gets taken off this page ....

I could see a 2 and a 3. I pulled up pictures of a 1912 and a 1913 in different windows and yours in a third window and compared the last digit over and over. In the end, I think it's a 1912. Sorry.

it's a 2. I had one in the past that I swore was a 3. But if you magnify it, you can see the corrosion. Same thing! When I looked at it it looked like a 3! I thought for sure, until under a microscope, then it became clear the 2 had corroded in spots.

No wait a minute, it's for sure a 2

Maybe the NGC would think better?

Hey Bill......What did the grading service charge you to grade and slab the coin? My guess is about $30 or $40. Coin value......about 5 cents. A severe ball busting from T-Net members..............PRICELESS!

Bill, you need to stick to the pre 1800 coinage brother :laughing7:

Dang - I didn't realize everyone would get their panties in a wad over this post. I was just having a little fun and you guys took things way too serious. Loosen up fellas .....

I thought the replies were all in good fun . You kinda left yourself open to getting grief. Hey at least you got a slabbed nickel out of the deal. Besides you'll make everyone jealous soon enough with some great finds.

Wait I changed my mind. It's a 2/3 over strike. UNIQUE!

If its a 2 then, does it have a "S" on the reverse...?
If so, it would be a key date...!
Altho a 1913 coin would be worth BIG bucks...!

Hey man, you never know! I thought I found a Canadian 1936dot penny (worth a couple hundred grand) a few years ago, and the general consensus was "haha, get real". Actually, I think I'm going to go find it and check it again. I'm sure it had the dot lol.

It is a 1913-----what did I win?:award_star_gold_3::laughing7:

Definitely a two, but you came close to winning the lottery!
