1913 V nickle

Just curious if any of us finds 1913 V nickle is it worth a good amount of money regardless of the condition?The reason I ask I have a bunch of v Nickles but i know the 1913 is rare.I still need to go through what I have.As always HH

Found one last week, didn't know it was worth anything and fed it to the dog. It's probably in the yard somewhere by now, but i'm to lazy to fire up the metal detector. Meh.

Never really understood odds very much - there's a 20% chance of rain, a 50% chance of snow, whatever.

My odds that anyone of us will find a 1913 V is 50% - you either will or you won't. Same way with snow or rain or Barber dimes. Maybe I should have paid attention is school more!

Tuberale - Do you have a source for your mintage info. Everything I've ever read has stated 5 were minted with a couple sources saying a possibly a 6th.

I don't. I thought it was from Coin World, which I had a subscription to for several years. I think it was from around 2008, when the last 1913 was sold, +/- a month.

I cannot find the issue now, and may have tossed it.

If i had a true 50/50 chance at winning the lottery because i either will win or won't win, then I would play every day!!

But then again, i like to think that i have a 50/50 shot at a supermodel (regardless of my probability of being rejected)....so maybe you're on to something in terms of self-confidence

Regarding counterfeits, these would be for novelties or gag gifts I suppose, right? If I were a counterfeiter, I have to think I'd try to pass of something that had a genuine mintage of at least 50 or a 100 to make it more plausible-- or even something a much higher mintage to reduce the scrutiny. I sort of seems like trying to counterfeit a 1,000,000 bill (which perhaps is done all the time--I dunno).

Maybe the guys who counterfeit 1913 V nickels are mosting hoping to swindle a few poor saps out of $500 or $1000, rather than take a serious coin collector for a lot more.

The above is from coin facts. Check the word BELIEVED AND KNOWN.

That means no one is sure if there are more than 5 and if 5 are accounted for then even if very small there is a possibility to find one.
