Don't know what machine your using but ...
Small Coils are your best friend in heavy iron / junky sites - they make it much easier to isolate the good targets.
I used a 6" Coil on my E-Trac - non-stop - for more than five years - countless great finds.

I got a nel snake and it's helped me find a lot in those trashy spots. Its also fun for curb hunting because it will put you right on your target and you barely have to dig.

Most (90%) of the time I use the 6 inch coil on my legend. Today I was using a larger coil to see if it would go deeper. A lot harder to swing than the 6 inch coil in the woods.
