1971 Halves

1971 Halves seem to be the ones that "get me" the most. Every time I think I have something suspicious warranting further investigation by the edge, its always a 1971.

Anyone else have this? Even my wife was helping me with my last box and said, "Damn these 71's"!

What say you?

I't 72s for me. For some reason, they seem to be very dark on the edge, such that I can't see an obvious copper edge, so I check them.

I got an interesting 1974 half dollar today. Some cut the coin in half so it opens up and on the copper inside of the reverse there is design of a roman guy siting down with his spear and shield and it says one penny around the rim and at the bottom under the roman guy it's dated 1967. And on the inside of the copper obverse there are circular groves that make it look like a small copper record. It's sort of a well done job - the coin almost snaps together. At first when I noticed it I thought - oh great I'm out $.50. But now I think maybe it was worth the $.50 just to keep as a souvenir. And it's a real half dollar too. I wonder how and why someone did this. I'd show pics but I don't have a camera.
