Interesting......I never knew that but makes sense.....thanks..... "Hi this is Denver....we just broke our our penny die, send another, thanks...." Guy at machine shop / die crib, slightly hung over, punches mint mark slightly out of whack, says screw it.....good enough....Back then the mintmark was punched into each die individually by hand so placement will vary. Some that are way out of whack carry a premium, but this one is not too far off.
