1998 nickel error ?

I recently picked up a storage locker and as I was going through things I came across this nickel inside of one of the piggy banks looking for experts on error coins or someone that might know better if it’s a real error it’s a little thinner and weighs a little less thanks for your response and hope everyone has a great day

It's just damaged. Looks like someone ground it down.

Post mint damage. Possibly ground as l.cutler described. I have seen similar in the bottom of dryers, and in bank bags.

Time for more coffee.
