-Update on gold bar in reply 52

It's been a while since I've been out at all, but decided to head down to Arkansas to visit some family and gave Matt (peanut) a call. He took me to a couple of his sites that he and several others have hit real hard over the years on Friday and Saturday. I'll be leaving the country here in about three weeks for a year, so it was nice to sneak in one last hunt :headbang:

Friday, January 14

Matt sitting next to my freshly dug silver.. All we could see was the reeded edge sticking out of the clump.

Nice Arkansas sunset as we were leaving the field on Friday

Friday's Take

I believe the gold bar is solid gold. Nowhere on the piece is there any evidence of it being plated and I put a nice scratch on the side and it still looks gold. It's also very heavy for it's size. I think this could have been a personalized Lt. shoulder bar and I also believe that it's from the same period as the coin. There was literally zero modern trash in this field. This field has given up 30+ pre-CW silver coins and old gold jewelry over the years. Any input is appreciated.

Part Two

Saturday, January 15

Yesterday Matt and I met up again to hunt a different site that was once a Civil War union camp. Here's a good look at the Arkansas skyline when we arrived in the AM.

Interesting finds. I wonder why the silver was scratched like that... :dontknow:

Nice gold too! I would be shocked if it were plated.

Nice finds Jeff!! The gold piece is a mystery. I hope you enjoy your year in Europe. Don't worry about these CW relics and old coins over here in the U.S. while you are gone as we'll take care of them by digging them up-LOL. Take care Bud, Quindy.

Silver and Gold BABY! Just proves that the ole J-TEAM can walk into any site, even

ones that have been pounded and pounded for years and years still dig great stuff! ;D :headbang: I

like those initials that are carved into that Seated, makes it a personal piece that's a welcome addition to

the collection! Congrats man and have a good time over in Russia and when you get back, come on

back to Ole' Virginny and we'll have a DIGGING BLOWOUT!!!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :occasion14:

The gold piece is definitely a pin and the same exact size as a shoulder bar... found at a military campsite.. found where 30+ silver coins and other period gold jewelry have been found... just what i think is most logical :dontknow:

I hope you find it ALL Quindy!!!!! :laughing9:
