1st platinum band & other beach goodies

Tiffany & Co. Pt 950, 9.1 grams, plus an awesome dumptruck and a "throwing knife". Autumn is my favorite time to beach hunt, the erosion begins and all the stuff that was too deep in August starts to become audible. I was using an Excal 1000 for this ring, in all-metal mode, faint but repeatable signal, 10-11 inches deep on an iron-rich CA beach. I switched to Disc. mode before I dug it, just to test, and I barely got a threshold change that way. All-metal is the way to go.

I'm still waiting for my first platinum. Congrats....

I agree with you about all metal. I've found several good rings that at first I couldn't hear with disc.

Hey Jim!

Nice to see you on the Beach Forum.

That Platinum is a beautiful (and Heavy) metal and it took considerable skill pulling it out of the wet sand at that depth!

I love this time of the year too and the highest tides haven't begun yet. I'm getting goodies galore popping out at Erosion Beach. Just 45 mins today got me 2 Silver rings and a Merc.

Bring your Excal if you ever pass through here and maybe we'll get some of the deep stuff. Let me know.

Interesting thing about that Tiffany site is that all the platinum rings of that style are priced identically, even if you get a size 4 vs size 10 ring. My ring is a size 8, contains about $400 worth of PT. What a mark-up.

Great ring!

I tried hunting in all metal this summer on Cape Cod, and I couldn't swing the detector underwater without getting all sorts of erratic signals on every swing. Had to switch back to discriminate.

Anyone else have this problem in knee to waist deep ocean water?
