It was a pretty muddy mess, but the snow and freeze is history!! Today I got out to a favorite spot of mine, it really is not a big producer but I found my first clovis here 20 years ago hence favorite spot! Found the typical what if (it wasn't broken) field finds, seems like only the smaller points escape the plows! The white piece of local material ( 4 mile chert as it is known) was found about 6-8 feet apart, I couldn't believe it, I have never found both pieces before, much less on the same day. I have hunted several fields over the years, concentrating on a few that produce the most and with all of the 100s of return trips I have never pieced one together. It was a nice surprise! I guess it's some type of knife although I have never found one shaped like this one. I wonder was it hafted or hand held? One of the tips is broken and the other was either re-worked after breaking or it was made that way as it has a worked edge (not a clean break). There is about 40 acres on a terrace above the river, guess where I'm going tomorrow? lol

Good luck and thanks for peeking, Bill

Glad you got out today and had some luck finding those matching pieces. That has happened only once to me in over 30+ years of hunting, I didn't know I had a match until I got home and cleaned up all the days' finds. I think your correct in calling your find a knife and by the looks of it, probably unhafted.

I always poke around in the dirt when I find one broke in half but so far I have found nothing but disappointment.

Here are two pieces I found that match. Missing the tip and the base still. From the workmanship and all, I believe that this was one of those elusive (to me) dovetails... At least 2 more pieces to go on this one, fingers will always be crossed when I get back to that field...

Wow ! That (UNFORTUNATELY) never happened to me !! Well... the only time it happened is when a friend of mine dropped one of my arrowheads on tile and it broke. We did find the 2 parts... :(

Nice match-up! :icon_thumright: I had a similar thing happen, but it took me two years to find the other half of an awl.

I'll be soooooo grateful to find the other pieces....
