I might have foolishly passed it up too. Are we sure its an antique? I also have a question. If the mod moved it, was there a doubt to its identification or authenticity?

Im not saying it is or isnt an antique but there are so many Chinese items made to look antique. I would have been fooled several times at Goodwill if I didnt see the sticker on the bottom. . It appears to be a great find and an antique. Im just asking to be certain..

I'm not sure the way the word Candy is written looks all that old Victorian style to me and looks more of a mod. late 60s early 70s style. I would expect it to be acid etched instead of a decal applied also. May not be all that old?

Thats what Im thinking at first glance. For some reason I dont see this holding up with a lot of use. Is it functional? Did you test it? Could there be a possibility that its vintage? I could be way off here too.

The way Candy is written jumped out at me too with the soda pop bottle silk screen type label..

Two different auctions----same as mine

I could profile $75 at least

If its on the internet, it must be true? I have no doubt you could get $75. Im questioning whether its 60s vintage or 1900 antique. Did anybody search Houton to see where they are located and what they manufactured?

If you google "wooden gumball machine" you will see many retro, 60s-70s vintage era home decor types of gumball machines. https://www.google.com/search?q=woo...ved=0ahUKEwiJlLCirbfNAhVRPVIKHePVBWAQ_AUIBigB

Gumballs were selling for 1 cent in 1940. https://www.etsy.com/listing/75819537/vintage-one-cent-gumball-machine-with

I believe they are both the same machine, same seller from Germany, same picture... Has anybody found anything on Houton? Even if they are different, different sellers often copy other listings assuming they are correct.

Minus the fact there are 3 different sellers and not to mention one has a knob on top and the other (like mine) has a cork.

Houton means wooden in German, rather than being a maker.

No you are not blind, maybe a bit rude, like to brag a lot and maybe not very experienced with antiquities :laughing7:

Can you post the link please of the one with the cork? I tried searching but cant find it. Im trying to research here to make the correct ID and learn. I dont care what you sell it for. Thank you.

I'm not bragging at all and I appreciate the help but I already know what this is. I never once asked someone to tell me what this is. I originally posted in "today's finds" and IT WAS MOVED HERE!....

please tell me how I am not very experienced?

Ok two different machines, 2 different sellers, but obviously one listing is a copycat of the other. Its very common with unknown items for a would be seller to find another listing and copy it, thinking the identification is correct. Hey Im guilty myself of copying another listing, just changing a few words.

Hey its a interesting piece and a great find, TheTh3rd, but I think its possible the dispenser is a vintage home decor item rather than an actual functioning antique. But Im tired of searching today. Im gonna bow out.

gumball machine circa 1910

Wooden gumball machine. "Gumball 1 c '

Machine is 27 cm high without the wooden stopper.
Vending machine is 16 cm wide with lower edge.
Automatic is 12.5 cm deep with bottom edge.

Beautifully finished wood. Glass window with the original text Gumball 1C (letters have faded, see photos)
On top of the opening to refill the vending machine, this one is closed with a wooden stopper. (stop is probably subsequent to the dispenser)

Automatic from 1900 to 1910. Was formerly an American chemist on the counter.

Automatic worked like this: You give the guy behind the counter at the drugstore the coin of 1 cent after you went up and down with the slider and you got out the door under a gumball. So there does not need money in the machine.

Beautiful and rare antique appliance. In good used condition, see below the pictures for an impression.

Cute as a collector's item or somewhere to put down.

What we would like to know is where this information came from and who is the manufacturer.

Wow youre an old man lol. Nice to be young. Ok no problem. You just came off a little rude in some of your posts. Myself Im a lot older and have a little experience but Im certainly not a know-it-all and I make mistakes on occasion, I just cant remember when. I know one thing, TN will get it right in the end and its an ongoing process. But I wouldn't mark it solved yet especially if you are not selling it..

And because at least 2 members question the ID, this is the correct forum.

Thanks, the world needs more bigcypresshunters:) I understand coming off as rude, but what else can I do when people obviously don't read the thread before they post.... And I thought the Native American forum was bad......jk. But thanks again-mark this one as solved!
