Went out detecting with a friend today for a few hours. Decided to go to a spot we went to yesterday even though we didn't find anything and there was other plugs everywhere but we had a good feeling about it. Ended up finding a area with a ton of iron, dug a test hole and found some clam shell, brick and potery. We slowed down and decided to just pound that area till it got dark. My first good single was a toy army man and a few feet from that I got another one. Less than a foot away i got my forst flying eagle cent 1858. Found a complete suspended clip, earing and a few buttons after that. Also got a style of buckle I haven't found before not sure what it was from. As it was getting dark i thought i was digging another button, poped the plug and saw what I thought was tiny tomback. Di dnt feel and sign of a shank and after a closer look I realised it was my first trime 1852. We left shortly after that but left alot of land unsearched.

Cool army men, nice buttons and trime! I got my first trime last fall; I need to get back to that site soon. Congratulations! That looks to me a good site if you can work through the iron.

Great finds and well done on hanging tough when a lot of people would have given up on the site after the first hunt!

Old Finger, y'all did well at this spot . I like the lead soldiers they are cool, but one piece caught my attention in particular. The 6th pic. down of the face of the button. I kept trying to see some sort of design on the buttons front. Now this may be that I'm a former Marine, but upon enlarging the pic I believe I see (barely) an Eagle at the top of the button sitting atop of a Globe. Look closely. The Eagles head is facing left, his wings are spread facing left and right. If you look to the bottom left of what I believe the globe to be, you can barely make out what and where the Anchor would be. The emblem of the Marine Corps: the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor. If this is what I believe it is, you have a nice early Marine Corps button. Go back to this site and take your time. Good luck. Let me know upon further investigation if you see what I believe I see.

Great stuff there! A flying eagle and trime in one hunt is pretty impressive (I have yet to find either)! And those toy soldiers!? I would like to find some of those! Nice to hear that you found those despite not being the first one there!

Wow Old Finger, what a great hunt, congrats. Your soldiers are Barclay "Podfoot" design, made from early 1950's-early 1970's. Yours are in great shape for being buried, wow! Sub 8-)
