Got back on the colonial. Never found colonial silver rings then bam, 2 on one site. Both have hand engraved designs but no inner hallmarks or identifying markings. One has a fairly thick oxidation on the outside. Maybe electrolysis will remove? Or destroy? These things sounded like cut reales. Beautiful sounding tones on the Deus, both of em. I got a pretty blue & white gem linked button and some cool buckle pieces and a couple nice buttons. Wish that one gold plated shoe buckle was complete. Wife got a complete buckle frame. She also got some kind of relic with hand stamped leaves. Maybe a rosette? Thats my favorite find of the hunt. Also got 3 thimbles. She got another round leather ornamental. I got some kind of nasty coin. Looks like billon so my guess is French. Maybe someone can make out what it is. I see a few letters but thats about it. I found the tops of 3 or 4 more buttons and a heart breaker of a dandy that is nearly split in too. Has a pretty design.

Its unbelieveable the stuff thats turning up... I too have had some sick luck the last two weeks as well. ha
Thimbles, buckles, buttons, rings and a copper... wow! I do a LOT of iron electrolysis, but had never wanted to, or done any on silver. This past spring I dug a Bust Half, 1 reale and 2 reale in some soil that was not too kind to them. They had a black scale on them that was hard as concrete. I tried the aluminum foil, baking soda w/boiling water method in case it was black silver oxide on them... but it wast... it was a scale. A VERY experienced member on here advised me to try electrolysis on them... I did with a SS spoon anode, phone charger, in a small dish... in 30 second bursts at a time. Between bursts I checked each time and the black scale began to break away. I stopped as soon as the scale was removed and left the tarnish on the coins... just because I like them to look dirty and dug (since they are) The result was 3 coins that displayed MUCH better than they did with the black scale. That was my experience with electrolysis on dug silver... and if I dug another object had a similar scale issue, I wouldnt hesitate to do it again.
