2 Hour Scouting Mission...
Firstly thanks to Land-Mag for gaining permission to yet another farm. We were interested in this one as it was the only wintered stubble field for miles, plus it had a Roman Road going through the middle of it. Land-Mag had done his usual field walking with dogs in tow & had some success with a handful of Roman Pot Shards. Tonight we decided to scout the large field for a possible Roman Site. After finding a few more pot shards scattered all over the place & not in any concentrated spots, we believe there is no site nearby (although still needs much more hunting) but just random bits thrown by passers by.
On the plus side areas of the field on the arieals showed signs of Medieval Ridge & Furrow.
So in 2 hours of wandering I'm pleased the signs are there:
Ed I Hammered Penny of Canterbury.
1872 Sixpence
Counterfeit copper core hammered Penny (voided long cross type) - never seen these counterfeited before.
17th C 'seal top' Spoon handle piece
Medieval Beehive Thimble
Medieval Lead Button
& something to look forward to tomorrow.........
