2-Piece "Navy" (or Marine) Buckle found at 1770's house. "Update" Uncle Kenny

Kinda late so I'll write the story tomarrow. Found by my Uncle Kenny Adams who is visiting from Texas. Relic was over 8" down, and found in Hinsdale Ma. at a 1770's house. O.K. here's the story: Called Uncle Kenny for a hunt on some property I have permission to hunt. She is one of my customers and a real nice lady. She actually celebrated her 91st on wed. the day of my hunt. So when I picked up Kenny, he got into my truck, and had mentioned he hunted his brothers place, where he stays when up here, earlier in the day. He said he had found something and wanted to show me, as he wasn't quite sure what it was. When he pulled it from his pouch I almost fell out of the truck!! HOLY( something or other and other)......!!!!!! When he told me his brother said "That thing ain't worth squat", I told him that this had to be his best find ever in his 40, (YES 40), years of detecting! I think when I showed him the site that Grasshopper posted for me, it really started to sink in. He is a great guy, and was my dads best friend,( we always called him Uncle Kenny, not really my Uncle) But he is to us. Relic was found in the vacinity of ALL my Banner finds from last year. Seems to be a hot place for relics and coins of this period. I couldn't stop talking about it , all the way to Tyringham. (about 20 miles away). I think I was more excited than him. You can't put a price on the value of unearthing something that carries that kind of History.

How much for your soul......

I don't sell my finds but if I found something that was valuable enough to improve my families life style it would be on the auction block in a second. To each their own...I just feel that if I start selling things off then it is no longer a hobby and too much like work.

Hey guys and girls, I was wondering why this thing hasn't made the banner. Because it was found by my uncle, who is NOT a T-Net member, it will not make it. I have made several inqueries about this piece and hope to here about it soon. Will keep ya'll informed about it's rarity, and of course, VALUE! It's ALL about "The Benjamins!"

Mr. Powell sounded EXTREMELY excited about the find, so I gave him specifics of when and where it was found. He said, " This is an outstanding find!!!!....Please tell me more about this; I'm very interested." Looking forward to hearing back from him. I also included some pics of Uncle Kenny with the find at my house.(we are in the process of painting the living room so what you see is primer ) Kind of a shame that a relic of this caliber won't make the banner, but Oh Well , rules are rules. I've checked in to that website now and again for several years now. Him not knowing the exact timeframe gets back to what I was saying about value. Sure it could be the best one, and only one, but if there's not much on paper about it, chances are it won't be highly valuable. What it would be is an awesome centerpiece to a display! Hope he has more info. for you in the next reply.

Well stated... I would be careful to NOT build a false history about the item if it's real history is still an unknown.

Well stated... I would be careful to NOT build a false history about the item if it's real history is still an unknown.

The only history I can find about this 2 piece buckle directs me right back to John Powell's Spanish Artifacts website and online museum. There is an EXACT match, to the tongue, at the bottom of the page. As regards to timeline, as Mr. Powell stated, your talking about a couple of years, either way, in the history of this piece. Napoleonic Era, Spanish Naval Officers, tongue and wreath design, sword or dagger, 2 piece belt buckle. Why it was found up here in Ma.?? Research is the key. And obviously, the only real "papered" research is from this site. Is Mr. Powell's research and history on this particular relic FALSE? Hopefully Mr. Powell will contact me soon with some more info.

I have no doubt that the lack of a banner spot has NOTHING to do with the "caliber of the relic" but rather the fact that "Uncle Kenny" is not a member of this forum. I told you that in a PM a few days ago.

It is small, but it's actually quite heavy as the metal is quite thick. All except for the 2 loops where it attached to the belt. Can't believe it wasn't broken at all, being 8"-10" down. I saw the hole he dug it from.
