2 tokens: 1800's

It was getting dark and I pulled what I thought was a very old copper coin, I could read "United States" on it. I put it away and kept searching and found a heavy coin. Unfortunately when I got back to my car and cleaned them off, I realized it was 2 token someone probably threw away. Oh well, still interesting history.

Congrats on the great finds !

The larger Token from 1837 was produced when President Martin Van Buren was in office.
There was a long Depression at the time when he was elected.
The very bad economy shows the U.S. Treasury on the back of a slow moving Tortoise.
"I Follow In The Illustrious Steps Of My Predecessor" was a negative comment about the previous President - Andrew Jackson.

I found two of these Tokens in one season about 10 years ago - I doubt I'll ever find another one.

Personally, I would rather find old tokens than coins.

I mainly hunt for old Coins but the big plus about finding old Tokens is you get to research their history !

You may have a new appreciation for your tokens. The one on the left is attributed to President Andrew Jackson in 1837. I found that exact token years ago and was able to research it. That is a great find, congrats.
