Some of my interesting findings so far are below. I have found:

2,113 pre-1960 dated coins... so that's 21.13 per box of 2,000 or 1 every 95 coins.
79 Silver War Nickels... so that's 1 in every 1.27 boxes or 1 every 2,532 coins.
30 Buffalo nickels... so that's 1 every 3.33 boxes, or 1 every 6,667 coins.
14 Proof Nickels... so that's 1 every 7.14 boxes, or 1 every 14,286 coins.
9 Key Date Jeffersons... so that's 1 every 11.11 boxes, or 1 every 22,222 coins.
2 V nickels... so that's 1 every 50 boxes, or 1 every 100,000 coins.

Here's my spreadsheet with the complete breakdown... only missing that pesky 1950-D Jefferson in terms of completing that set... 200K nickels results.jpg

Beautiful breakdown! Congrats on all your finds. Keep it up! :icon_thumright:

Like the dedication and the detail, you must love those nickels. Some great finds in there. I'm just stacking the silver so I just dumped $60 of pre 60 Jefferson's back into the population.

Thank you, Immy! Just need that pesky 1950-D... hopefully the next 200,000 will produce it!

Thanks! They're more fun than any other denomination in my opinion... I've almost stacked two rolls of silver from them!

Yikes... that ought to turn your fingers silver... errr, nickel.

So, based on the value of the coins you found-vs-time to search; you should be working for around 0.034 cents an hour?

It's an amazing chart, congratulations on your success!

462 nic boxes-------487 war nic, only 2 '43-D, the :BangHead::BangHead::BangHead: '50-D :dontknow: must be in witness protection ???

Nice stats. I'm missing only the '38d. So tough to put together a full set!

Congratulations on the finds and record keeping. If I'm not mistaken that avg. out to 3 boxes/week?

Do you do dimes or other demoninations too?

Well, you're finding War Nickels at a better rate than me, so hopefully my rate will catch up... Yes, that 43-D is tough... mine was a very thrashed example... yes, that 50-D is in witness protection...

I'm doing about 4 boxes worth of nickels a week now (first four months I didn't do nearly as many).

Yes, I do other denominations: Cents (10,000/mo), Dimes (5,000/mo), Halves (2,500/mo). I only occasionally grab quarters. After tomorrow, I will be stepping things up.

Occasionally some of my fingers turn black... some soap and water fix that...

I work from home, so I just do the coins whenever the time allows...

Thanks for the compliment on the chart... It's fun for me! Hopefully the next 200K will be just as fruitful, if not more!

Nice work. Averages very similar to my own. I'm still missing the '39-D, '43-D and '50-D.

Thank you, Twitch... how many coins have you gone through? And out of curiosity, since you're out on the east coast, how many 1950-P, 1954-S, and 1955-P coins have you found?

I hope you mean you go through 10,000 pennies ($100 a month) otherwise 400 boxes a month sounds crazy!!

jcole - I've hunted 135 boxes of nickels. Found 90 war nickels, 31 proof nickels, 6 V nickels and 203 Buffalo nickels. I have a $32 CWR score that yielded 172 Buffalo's, 4 V's and multiples of every non-silver Jefferson except '39-D and '50-D. In an unrelated hunt I found 14 proof nickels in a roll. In 4 years i've lived in Richmond VA, Savannah GA and now I'm in the St Louis MO area. Haven't really noted that the west coast mints are harder to find.

So you're finding War Nickels at a slightly lower rate than me... If you take out the CWR score you had, and the 14 proof roll you had, your Buffalo, V, and Proof stats nearly mirror mine. Pretty cool. Thanks!
