I don't have a photo yet but I will soon. I can see that it was a Philly but it seems that the mink mark has been taken off. The rest of the coin doesn't seem to be affected. Any thoughts other than someone filled the mint mark off? Like I said pics soon, getting out the camera.

Jefferson looks like a zombie but other then that id say someone used a dremel on it

There's no marks on it like anyone modified the coin at all. I can see the outline of the P, but it didn't seem to get struck.

Gonna need better pics.

I'd speculate grease-filled die.

I know! My camera isn't cooperating. Point and shoot isn't the best. The mint mark is the only thing like that though, the rest of the coin is clear and normal.

do you have a "macro" option on your camera? hopefully i'm not suggesting something you already know, but that often yields the greatest improvement in clarity.

Even in macro, I still need to be about 18 inches, otherwise it won't focus. And I can't hold still enough to make it not blurry. Hopefully I can borrow my fathers DSLR and I know that it has a good macro mode

Ok, finally got a decent picture. Here it is:

Thats why I kept it in the first place, and its the only 2009 P I've found. Thanks for the help, it's interesting to say the least.

I vote that it had some grease in the die when struck, and not done after market. I've seen a few of these for different years.

Either way, worth keeping as a 2009, but not worth more as an error.

2009's are hard to find though, so it's a good find.

The 2009 D nickels don't seem to be hard to come by, i've gotten a little more than a roll, and i've only done about 3 or 4 boxes. I keep them anyway, but I may start throwing some back and keeping the better condition coins

I've only found 1 2009-P nickel (CRH) and 1 2009-D nickel (change), so they aren't that common.

They seem to be plentiful in comparison here, I've got a roll +17 of the 2009-D (57 total).
