I had a great 2020 and despite all the lockdowns I still managed a few good outings.
With this being my first full year in Europe I am very happy with the quality of some of my finds. I'm still kinda stuck in the post-medieval era for the most part but a few lucky digs have been able to push back the dates a little bit.
I hope you enjoy looking at my highlights.
I apologize in advance for the long post.
First, we have to look at the coins (all of these pictured here date from the late 1600's-1899.)
A nice little 2 centimes from France dated 1862
A worn yet identifiable liard de France from 1695-1699
A liard from Luxembourg dated 1759
A super neat half liard from Luxembourg dated 1783
A 12 deniers coin from France made from 1791-1793. Not silver but Bell metal. Had me fooled for a bit though!
A crisp Dutch 1 cent coin from 1828
And my only non-Roman silver coin this year. A crusty yet beautiful German 1 Mark from 1899.
Now, for the RELICS
One of my true highlights of the year was this STUNNING seal matrix from around the 14th century
Another relic from the medieval era is this broken buckle piece from the 14th century.
As always a bit of bling is appreciated. Modern 8ct gold ring with possible sapphire
A nice WW1-WW2 era British cap badge from East Lancashire
A chunky 19th-century solid silver spoon
A beautiful silver Fireman's medallion awarded for 20 years of service. 1882 is the year the organization was founded, not the year it was made.
A tiny French military button from the Napoleonic wars. Circa 1800.
A late 17th-century spectacle buckle
Now, for my favorite section of finds. My ROMAN COINS! Sadly no Roman relics but the coins make me more than happy.
A CONSTANTIUS II coin dating from 348-352AD
And my favorite find of the year. A silver Roman Denarius from Elagabalus dating from 218-222AD
Also, I can't forget, my small collection of fossils found along the way. All of which are small marine creatures.
A nice photo with my top ten finds all in one place
Thanks for taking the time to look at my post. I wish you all a great day and good luck in 2021!
