"P" is more likely (Remington) Peters. 1887-1934

I think I would hunt that area again, Maybe some coins there as well. Good luck!

I have found several late 1800s shotgun shells but the oldest coins I have found so far is a 1911 wheat penny and a 1943 Mercury Dime
