Hi all,

I had a chance to go out twice since my last post over the weekend, and boy did I clean up! On Monday I went to soccer field #1 that I had visited several weeks ago..I found quarters galore there, so I went back to see what I missed..I came up with $8.74 in clad (20 quarters, 33 dimes, 5 nickels and 19 pennies), a child's sterling ring (#18 this year) that's missing a stone, a .925 silver earring with lots of stones in it, a Webelos neckerchief slide and a lost key.

The earring rang out as a penny if you can believe that..

Then today I visited soccer field #2 where I found 68 quarters in one hunt back on March 16 (it was my record for quarters in one day)! I knew there had to be more, and there was..much more! It was rather muddy, but the quarters kept coming..I managed to pull another 46 quarters out of the ground, along with 4 nickels, 30 dimes and 24 pennies, totalling $14.94 and giving me a 114-quarter total for that field in 2 hunts!! I've never found that many at one place in all the years I've been detecting.

I realized later that if I had found 6 more quarters, I would have found 3 rolls of them just at that one place. Most of them were found on the sidelines, where more than likely people sat to watch the games.

My quarter total so far this yearis 532 and I just passed the 2,500 coin mark.

Thanks for viewing and happy hunting!

...I can hear you strumming that new Epiphone already...

Me too Nick! I have a gorgeous Ovation shallow bowl model and a customized USA Strat that nothing will ever compare to, but I was at the music store one day and fell in love with this Epi jumbo model..I wish I could get the Gibson version but goes for about $3,250.00 :o This one sounded GREAT and looked great too..most importantly, I can afford it!

I also thought it would be cool to say "Look at this guitar I dug up!" :D

Wow!! I never get that many quarters. Were you discriminating out the other coins???

Boy thats great, you have been doing a lot of digging.

Nope, I went there specifically to find quarters, and at the same time hoped to find another ring. When I would come across the dimes and nickels I went ahead and dug those. I was getting tired of digging after a while and it wasn't worth the time to dig up any more pennies..that's why I dug fewer of them than quarters and dimes.

I was surprised to find I averaged $4.87 per hour at this location ($38.94 in 8 hours of hunting).

OK OK give us lowly MD'ers a lesson on how to hunt a soccer field. I've been to them several times and never have I found that much! My gosh you could open up your own bank! I am so jealous. I HAVE to be doing something wrong! I generally start at the midline and work back and forth to cover 1/4 of the field. Then I go to the midline and work back and forth to cover the other end of the field. Then I go to the other side of the field and repeat the same thing. Apparently that is NOT the way to do it. As for the sidelines. Well down here the bleachers are all on concrete bases and even where people do sit on the sidelines in their own chairs I haven't found much. I HAVE TO BE DOING SOMETHING WRONG! I need lessons! :-\

BTW FABULOUS HUNT!

Thats some die hard digging, good job !!

Keep @ it and HH!!

Mumszie! First of all, I have been really lucky to find 4 or 5 of these places that must have never had a coil sweep over them..When I started this particular one, I just did it randomly. I know about gridding off areas, but I do a kind of "look-see" by performing a random check of the playing area. It gives me an idea of what I can expect to find.

Every other coin I found at this place was a quarter..then every coin. Later I was finding pocket spills with 3 or 4 quarters in several holes. I knew I was in for a good time, so I randomly hunted the entire playing area, going over and over the same places I had been (I sometimes get a quarter target and notice a spot about 2 feet away where I put a plug back earlier)!

I later found that the sidelines were the best for quarters and dimes, with the exception of a silver ring I found by one of the goalposts (rang out like a quarter)! Of course I followed the 2 longest sides of the rectangle. There were bleachers on one side and nothing but grass on the other. Believe it or not, most of the quarters and dimes were on the side where there was nothing but grass!! This is where I envisioned people sitting in lawn chairs with bulging pockets of coin..the bleacher side was FULL of trash, even though I did find MAYBE $4 or $5 in coin there.

Another thing you may want to try is a soccer field (no bleachers) at a grammar school or church. In my experience, the playing area is full of coins, a ring or two, and God knows what else kids lose while they're running around. The older the school the better. You'll know after 10 or 15 minutes if the place has been hunted before. If the school is at least 10-15 years old you'll find a nice amount of clad and lost jewelry. I searched several of these over the last 6 months and brought home at least $12 in change at each place after hunting 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

That's it in a nutshell, hope it helps you. Everyone has their own technique, but this works for me.

Hey Natman.. Save a few quarters for the rest of us. You are really cleaning up this year. I've sorta noticed myself, that I'm finding more quarters this year than I have in the past. I know that they are giving the dimes a hell of a run for their money. Keep it up, and at the rate you are going, 7500 coins shouldn't be any problem this year.

them epiphones have a sound all their own, wish I would have never sold mine :'( You're doing way good finding quarters, keep it up.

Yeah well... No fair, your ground is thawed.

They must be throwing away quarter in Mo. Wow that is some total Natman.

You are setting a blazing pace Natman. WTG

Sick! Looking at that stack of Quarters makes me sick! :D Wow, that is pretty sweet. I think my record is about 12 for a day. :tongue3:
