2nd Buffalo nickel found today

Did it come out of the ground looking like that? Every buff I have ever dug came out rust colored

Nice coin..I have yet to find one... keep it up !!!

They must put preservatives in the soil there. I've never seen one that clean, dug.

Great finds.

My buddy has a nickel chemical,he said it wouldn't hurt it,so I trust him,it does have some pitting,as far as soil, the stuff near the groves are always destroyed(fertilizer),stuff in the swamp areas tend to be clean(low oxygen) after a dip in r.o. water,i found a bunch of V nickels at the first spot....I do find a lot of garbage coinage,no dates ,clad etc..,but I do not post that stuff, I have a hard enough time getting responses from the good finds

Aint it nice when you dig up a coin and it turns out to be a surprise like this.

Love it!

Now you have,if it makes you feel any better, I could show you the first one I found...no date and destroyed, wait I did post it last week, you must of missed the post

Seems to be nice detail.

Buffalo Nickel is in really great shape! Good score! Some of the ones (as I'm sure you know living in Fla....) don't do so well after being in the ocean! Found 6-8 of em this past year, only one came outta the dirt and it was the best looking one, all the ones from the beach/ocean...TRASHED! Can't even get dates off of them.

Thanks for sharing...

Yea, me too....99% of them are toast...Most mine are either Green or Red, or just complelty black.
That is until a couple weeks ago, I found one in an area that seemed to me mainly sand. And i was totally surprised to see that it still had some of the "Silverish" color on it. (1927 )

So it does happen...Just has to be good soil conditions.

Great score my friendFeburay Finds all.webp!

Just wanted to toss this in.. Low oxygen in swamp bottom is great for preserving biological matter and keeping lead free from oxidation.. Since low pH will not bother lead.
I'm not sure where this spot is but where I'm at in Florida the swamps are very tanic and filled with rotting plant matter that makes a pH level that is very destructive to metal.
The best preserved coins and other metal objects I've found in my part of the state are always from well drained sandy areas.
Congratulations on that coin and your other finds its a real rarity to find one in that good of shape under the conditions you described.

I just tried to look at your other threads to see how well the preservation was on the rest of the coins you find..
seems all the photos are gone??

Great find! Congrats!

Nice buffalo!, be careful looks like your in snake country. Keep digging, looking forward to a video!

Do you know if that nickel chemical is a brand name or does he make his own? I'd like to try it on some I have.

it is a name brand, from the same one that makes nic date I think
Thanks!

I'd been thinking about trying one. I'll have to look into it.

yea I figured on some of my better finds,i posted and 3-4 days later thread is dead,if they are not getting responses,I take them down, you know the pics that have 600+ views but no replys or likes, I am planning on doing a "total finds pic" from hammock #1 maybe I will gopro them all ,and make it easier

Why would you bother taking them down? I've had some pretty cool responses over a year later.
I can't imagine doing a total finds thread oh my gosh...
Just saying the objects you posted at the time of the find in context with the words you chose at that time would be a bit more meaningful than pictures of bunches of things with no story to go with them ... get my drift?
Anyway... good luck and happy hunting.
