Re: 2nd Trip to Santo Domingo (pics)

Nice pictures Luis, thanks for sharing with us. Why has the museum been closed for 2 years???

Here are 3 different calibers of musketballs.........Do you know what is that black rock on top of the table ;D ;D ;D ;D

If you ever go to S.D. you must visit a restaurant called Nautilus it is in the Boca Chica area...the tables are set in a deck on top of the water and the have a natural fishtank in the center of the deck with sharks, searays and turtles.....they also have parked in the deck a replica of a Spanish galleon.....You can be having diner and jump in the water from the deck....really cool place to spend the hole day.....Enjoy!!!!!

Chagy,
Very good photos.
Do you have any more photos of the cannon or can you provide any additional information like the date.
What I am looking for is the back end of this cannon.
I wonder what it would take $$$ to open this Museum back up?

Those are some mighty fine looking cigars! I think I will need a "special ocassion" to smoke those. (Like maybe when we find the first coin off the San Martin?)

Chagy and Lucy make a great couple, don't you think? Reminds me of a night club scene in Scarface with
Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer!

;D

Sharing with Tnet members In S.D. here are some pics of us having diner with my good friend Bobadilla and his wife.......
This is also a fine Brazilian restaurant located in the heart of the plaza, while sitting there you can see the house of Cristobal Colon and the old structures....

That black rocks looks like silver. I have one similar .
Buy maybe not as large.
As far as the cannon goes is appears to be a swivel or rail cannon and is about 33" long. There is a aiming handle at the back .
Does anyone have any idea about the date it was made?

Not sure if its from "La Cocepcion" 1641 of from "Guadalupe" 1724

Chagy.....

no, it is not a swivel gun or rail gun- it has dolphins. That means it must have been mounted on a carriage not a swivel.

can't see the details but looks 17th century and also looks Dutch.

Luis is the real deal, folks. He is not a "smash and grab" treasure hunter. He loves to hunt treasure, but he also loves to serve the people of the countries he visits. We all can learn a lesson from him and learn to cooperate with gov'ts in serving others.

Way to go, Luis! I'm proud of you, bro!

Hi Luis and all the others,

Really great pics and great info! Because I feel myself to be a little part of your visit here in Santo Domingo, I would like to confirm to everybody on this Forum that you are 100% right about everything you wrote here - about museums, artifacts, Brazilian restaurant, sea food restaurant Nautilus, about history and mysteries of this island, etc.

I would like also to state here that I FULLY agree with what Darren wrote about Chagy. And his lovely wife Lucy is the same as him. Luis is really kind of person as Darren described. I can confirm that from my personal experience.

Regards to all from mysterious Hispaniola Island full of old shipwrecks....
