Detector(s) used
XP Deus II v0.6 with 11" Coil
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I decided to take a rest today & go fishing, the only problem was I forgot my rods & accidentally had my spade & detector - oooops

Decided I didn't want to do the field I have been systematically searching & wanted to get a hammered. So I went to another field knowing that it was roughly ploughed to give it a try for awhile. When I got there the farmers son was halfway through rolling it flat. What a stroke of luck 8)

Coins:
2 Roman Coins
1620's Rose Farthing
1674 Farthing (Rare to have a visable date)
1797 'Chartwheel' Penny (If these are still left, fields worth doing)
1806 Halfpenny

Buttons:
1790s Pewter Button
Nice 'Train' 1 piece - New one for me :)
Navy Button

Henry VIII 1547-51 - Halfgroat - Canterbury Mint - Book value - £100 ($200) :o
Only have one other Henry VIII, not half as good as this one

Now I would say that was a GREAT few hours :) This year is my mega-roll year 8)

Hey Crusader, by the way, I think your screen name is great. A great screen name for today's politically correct world. I wanted to ask, do you have to turn in everything that you find to "Big Brother" so they can determine if they want to keep it? Or do you have to only turn in finds that are over a certain age?

Basically the Law is:

I have to hand in within 14 days anything over 300 years old with 10% or more silver or gold content. Not including single gold or silver coins. The items I hand in I get back (if museums don't want them) or I get the market value (which is normally more than you could sell them for). VERY FAIR SYSTEM.

It sounds pretty fair. I suppose it's better to have things spelled out so that you don't get the raw end of the deal. By the way, I've been thinking about getting a Cortez myself. I love using my LST and my Tejon, but the target ID feature of the Cortez looks like a nice addition to my arsenal.

Man i would love to be able to come back over and detect there. Was over in Hayes for a month about 9 yrs ago for work and did not have time to detect.....
Great finds and i really enjoy the posts from over there>>
And the only hammered i get is after a bad day of hunting.. :)

To be honest, I pay no attention to the VDU (target ID). I listern & thats it. I don't trust them.

sweet finds, have you ever hunted all day? sunrise to sundown? makes me wonder how much stuff people will find with such a hunt, everyone over in England hunts for 2 or 3 hours and finds 20 finds with silver, most dated hundreds of years old, with hammered coins, holy smokes, and silver, i need a trip to Europe here soon, a 5 to 6 hour hunt over here in the states is average maybe a 100pennies and some junk jewlery , can't wait to see your next finds, now lets see some more hammered coins, happy hunting and keep it swinging

It is simply unbelievable! I always enjoy your posts and they give my motivation :) - so many things are still to find

I normally do 5 hours. However I am taking it easy due to injury. Look at last saturday - did 9 hours non-stop (no breaks, no food, just water).

Cool 1 piece button with the loop :)

Now THAT's an awesome field. You said it right about the cartwheel. That was a HUGE coin! Don't know if many folks here have seen one before, but the coin is thicker than a silver dollar and about the same size as one or a little bigger. That's a Copper with a capital "C"! If you got one of those, then this field will hold some great treasures. That's quite a nice hammered--excellent find.

Cheers,

Buckleboy

Crusader,

I took a quick look for info on your train button. Looks like the locomotive is a "Jenny Lind" type 2-2-2 first built in the late 1840's for the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway. Named for a popular opera singer of the day. They were highly successful engines and used for most of the rest of the 1800's by many railways across the UK and around the world.

Here's a sketch of one:

Pretty cool.

Nice one, thanks, DClocoMatt ;)

I've never found a Henry V111 hammered but I have got 5 Lizzies.
Great little loco button, reminds me of stevenson's rocket.

Dave.

Beautiful hammered silver Crusader! That train on your button looks similar to my train button I found. I wonder which country used the first train? I have a pint on Germany being first, LOL! Can not find anything old here in Celtic/Roman territory, detected near a Celtic grave site and found a worn 1850ish copper tonight. I really think the Celts realized the ground here is too rocky and full of stones, too hard to dig and farm so they moved on and took everything with them, LOL. HH, Mike

Wow, another awesome day Crusader, congrats on the great finds, especially the hammered!

Smiles!
