I received permission a while back to hunt 47 acres that was a farm that dated back to the 1800's. I thought I would find some Civil War Relics as it is only 3 miles outside of Winchester, Virginia. I have been 3 times. Except for lead, I have dug nothing but junk, alot of pulltabs, some crusty coins, etc.

Last week I took a new member to TNet along. Silvernickel found the first silver. It was a Roosie dime, I can't remember the date. Today was my third try there.

I found two Silver coins, a 1963 Quarter and a 1957 Dime, along with a 1941 Wheat Cent. It was one of my best days this year. I took DigginGirl's Bounty Hunter (Discovery 2200, Radio Shack) instead of my usual TreasureAce 250. It finally confirmed what I was thinking all along. Her cheap little machine goes deeper than my Garrett. I stopped digging the shallow targets and concentrated on deeper stuff. I think that is why I found these coins.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice coins you got there Digg!! How deep were they found at? Ive never owned either a BH or ace 250. From what Ive been reading Im kinda suprised the Ace didnt get to them. It sounds like lots of people like it. BTW, How do you get your pictures to post so clearly?
Thanks, Steve.

Strange the 250 isnt going deeper ???

Hey Steve,

I'm not downplaying the Garrett at all. I wouldn't trade mine for anything. It just seems that on this type of hunting, the Bounty Hunter is doing a better job. I was digging targets at 4-6 inches. My TreasureAce 250 will find coins that deep, but maybe it is isn't suited to tell you the correct depth. I really have no idea. Maybe I just missed them with the Ace.

My pics are off of a scanner. For small things it works better for me than a camera.

Nice digs for sure~!!!!!

on the BH/ace thing. Try taking both machines, when you get a good deep signal with the BH mark it and swing the ace over it. That is how I learned what to listen for, makes it much easier if you have a hunting buddy.

Does that BH have manual GB ? If your in Virginia, you may need something with manual ground balance. I know a couple sites I have been too out there have been hotter ground than anything I have seen.

Just my two cents, but I agree with Lionhrt9 post about taking both mahcines and use the BH to find a target, then use the Ace to see if it can detect the target.

It may be that you just never passed the Ace 250 ovet the good targets.

I've taken the 2200 and the 250 out at the same time. I hate to say it, but the 2200 always beat the Ace. Got to be the ground balance!

Nice finds.

As for the ACE not finding deeper coins, I have taken my ACE 250 and my MineLab Sovereign to the field and tried different finds. Sometimes the Mine Lab will pick up a coin that the ACE misses and the ACE will find coins that the Mine Lab can't. But as far as depth, I find good coins all the time at 4 to 6 inches and some deeper with my ACE 250.

The soil conditions in VA. might be a problem with the ACE. I know there is lots of iron in VA. but some of the readers from your area will have to post their thoughts on hunting with the ACE.

For the most part, I like the ACE better than my Mine Lab, just because it is so much lighter and it finds a lot of coins. Heck, I only found four thousand clad coins with it last year and many, many silver and IH finds, also found a 6 pound cannonball with the ACE 250.

Try turning the sensitivity down around 4 notches and try hunting in the coin mode. I try all modes, but I've been hunting with this great detector for over a year straight. I dig all signals that fall into the coin area of the screen, even if it's a iffy signal. Try it sometime, you will be amazed at the coins you will dig, just because the coin my be on it's side.

Good Luck, Ringfinder

So glad this place is finally giving up the silver, congrats and keep em coming. Good luck!
