I got off work early today so I headed out to look for an old training camp. In the late 1800s the British were still responsible for training soldiers in Canada established a training camp in Nova Scotia and named it after the famed Camp Aldershot in England. In 1904 the camp was relocated and the old camp was left to the wilderness and long forgotten. Well I have been on the hunt to locate the exact site but have only up to now found one dropped Enfield bullet. Today I don't know what to make of this, all this came from an area of about 20ft X 10 ft. and then nothing, not a button or a coin. I don't think all this from the camp but I could be wrong.

This is a pic from 1896 at the camp, note the forth guy on the left. He is missing a button and I plan on finding it.

I think your finds would have been better had you been the first to detect that site. I've heard of several detectorists being there in the past and finding assorted relics from colonial to present day. I would imagine there is still untapped pockets of goodies waiting there, you just gotta get a coil over em!
Good luck on your future hunts!

Nice finds and pictures Dave.

I've been looking for that same site...though mostly through online research. I've got a locally published history book that gives some clues as well as pictures of the site with the mountain in the background...may help in pinpointing the site...

There isn't a whole lot of info on the camp. I still don't think that I am onto it. I didn't find anything other then the Snider bullets and caps that might be period. We will have to get together and go over the area some day. The good thing is it is close to work so when I can I can dart in for an hour or so to poke around. I know there has to be some goodies there still.

Good eye on the missing button, finding the original site might be very interesting indeed.

Almost missed that button, thanks for pointing it out...Looks like you could be in the right area but if others hit that area hard than like IH says...find that little pocket of untapped goodies...

Cool finds!!

I did my jump training at Aldershot (UK) with the parachute Regiment!

As you know Dave, half the fun in this hobby is playing detective and trying to solve the mystery of where a long-lost site might be located. I'm sure you'll figure it out soon and be handsomely rewarded for all your hard work. Good luck!

I have been in touch with the Aldershot (UK) museum to see if they have any info on it but unfortunatly they didn't. I would really like to get my hands on a site map of the camp from back in the day. They would have been set up in tents and that meens they would have lost alot of items in the grass, sand and mud. That's the area I would really like to locate.

Your are 100% correct Bill, the detective work is just as much fun. I am a bit like an old hound dog, when I get a sent it is hard to back off.
