I know the feeling! The same thing happened to me a while back at a house very similar the the one you show. I ended up with one Indian head, a couple of early wheats, a victorian ladies buckle , a spoon and a few buttons. :dontknow:

You think somebody hit it before?

not sure, there was heavy heavy iron in every direction. I was happy to get the one injun, I figure the next one will be better!

moxie? what the heck is that?.....lol

5 hour hunt with some very early artifacts would of made my day. B.T.W those would look good in a shadow box display.

An injun' is always welcome...especially those "greenies".

That one' has some sweet patina to it :icon_thumleft:

I will say this, all the finds are excellent. I love the details on the buckles or whatever they are. They would all look very nice in a shadow box.

 RR

Those relics seem way too ornate to be "ladies' buckles". It doesn't make sense to have buckles for "private" clothing items that would be so bulky and ornate and the loops on them are pretty small for belt buckles. Why couldn't they be watch fobs instead? Even women used pocket watches that they'd keep in a shirt (blouse) pocket or skirt / dress pocket and needed fobs to pull them out for viewing. And instead of being advertising pieces, wouldn't the ladies prefer something a little more ladylike and jewelry-looking? :icon_scratch:

Just wondering. :dontknow:

I too know this feeling. I have been detecting my grandparents farm off and on since May of last yr. I know the original farm house was contructed in the late 1820's, as it shows up on a map of 1830, but not on one from 1825 of the town. I have never found more than one coin in a day and the oldest coin I have found is a 191?, wheatie. Not what I dreamed of knowing how old the building was and how long people had lived on the site. I have dug many many horse shoes and mucho iron, since my great uncle had a blacksmith shop on the site. Believe me, I KNOW the feeling. Hang in there, I know someday when I remove enough iron I should find everything from large cents to even capped bust silver, or atleast seateds. HH, T.

Uh, funny you should post this the same thing happened to me today also.
There is so much iron trash in the farm yards yard masking the good stuff. I did switch to a 6 inch coil, turned up the bottle cap reject, found a good spot to ground balance, and then I found some 1990's clad. >:(
I won't give up though.

Ya know it is there. so close yet so far.

Your other finds are nice I got a plumbing fixture. :(

A single indian is a good day hunting. Come to think about it any day hunting is better than another day of work anyhow even without the indian. They are there, you just have not rescued the rest of the tribe, they are waiting, go get em rounded up!

HH,

Dave

wow that place looks awesome, but I stopped judging a hunting site by the way it looks, normally the worse looking places are the ones that produce the best for me!

Only one coin but what a coin!! Congrats on a beauty of an Indian!

Still a great day. :icon_thumright:

That is one good looking I.H. G.4.E. Sometimes it's not what you find but the quality of the ones you do. And that looks to be in amazing condition!! :headbang: Just my thoughts!!

At least it wasn't a total wash-out, Terry. I've hunted similar homes and not much to show. Either the people never had any money to lose or it had been hunted over the years ::)

That is a great looking place to hunt. I sure on you get the trash out you will start finding the coins. Anyway finding one at a time is great but it is the hard way....Matt

Keep in mind that if there are any additions or newer outbuildings, fill dirt may have been spread or even brought in....I've run into that a few times.
