Well, I got up this morning and went to hit a park in a small town about 30 miles away from my house. This is the same park I pulled 2 Indians out of last month. Today was a good day for me, my 1st double silver day with a little 1800's to top it off with.

1961 & 1953-S Dimes

1887 (2nd oldest coin for me) & 1899 Indian

1953-S Wheaty & 1956 Canadian Penny

4 Clad Pennies, 1 Clad Dime, 1 Clad Quarter.....50% Keepers ;D

I love when people still get the old coins in parks.

Nice work!

Nice coins there. That 1899 looks like it was lost brand new. Keep up the great work.

Nice, Storm--
Looks like you made a good choice to go back and hunt that little old park while soil conditions where dry. When dry, the undesirable iron targets tend to quiet down. Under wet conditions, all those iron targets can easily mask the keepers like the ones you found.

Just goes to show. Same ground, different conditions, different approach, and different attitude; can be like hunting new ground…. Throw a different coil in the mix and it could get even more interesting.

Nice work Storm! Compared to the last time we were there, I’d say you put a beating on that little old country park…

That aint a bad percentage Storm....Nice job!!

Storm just a few quick questions...Did you ever take this 30 mile trip with your dfx to the same location. And how deep were these coins? I know we had a brief discussion when you were changing from the dfx to the explorer. i am trying to figure out how to make some adjustments with my dfx.

I am easily hitting coins 6 to 8 inches with my dfx. I have found more dimes with a solid signal at 6.0 in the 1970's then i care to talk about... :(

No, I havent been out to this park when I had my DFX.

Both Silver dimes were around 6", The 1887 IH was about 8" but the 1899 IH was only at 1/2-1" (Thought it was a Clad Zincoln).  The Wheatie and the Canadian Penny were at about 4-5".

Ummm, The only thing I can suggest is little or no Discrimination.  I am hunting wide open without anything disc out.

On a side note, I sure wish this machine picked up clad like the DFX!  Because I have to swing so slow (for the old deep stuff), I am unable to cover the same ground.  It has really killed my clad count. I like finding clad to save for a year end purchase.  Maybe I will try a couple different setting with the SE for when I am "clad/Jewelry hunting".

Well here is what I think the dimes i might have hit...the 1887 penny no way! With the small coil i am using 7.5 is limit up to now and that is in sand or woodchip! i am finding enough clad to easily pace past my goal of 5500...but someone pointed out my hunts are starting to look the same wherever i hunt...and they are! I went to a knew park crappy neighborhood ;D and as I do put my coins on a paper plate when i got home...manilla folder when over 100...I looked at picture and a picture from a few days before. The only difference one had a lot of woodchip stains and the others were dark from dirt. My 2-3 hour hunts are almost producing exact numbers...dimes/pennies usually higher than quarters, nickels 3 to maybe 9 out of 60 to 100 coins.... silver count as i talked to you about in past coin wise still stuck on 4! I did add a few more wheaties...

Nice digs and nice crisp photos.

Excellent finds---Those Injuns are in great shape.
With a keeper ratio like that I would be pounding that spot.

Nice job storm, I've yet to dig old coins here...They are coming i'm sure....
Keep safe...

Pretty nice coins; I know you are going back to that park! ;D

Are you liking the SE better than the dfx or are they equal ? Inquiring minds want to know.....Awesome finds.....rh

Each machine has strengths and weaknesses...I found a heck of a lot more coins with the DFX, however I wasnt able to get the deeper ones.  Now with my SE, I am finding deeper targets, however I have to swing very slow which has taken away from my overall finds count.  So I guess it was a trade off, but I am finding deeper targets with the SE then I had with my DFX, even with the DD-1400 coil.

I like the DFX for its ability to hunt quicker (sweep speed), and recover more targets
I like the SE for its ability to find deeper targets.

However, I think I am going to mess with my SE to see if I can come up with a good program for clad hunts.  Something where I can swing the coil faster and still find coins in the 6" range.  More then likely I will just set up my SE in factory presets, turn fast on, deep off, and auto sen on.  That sound quiet down the deeper Iron and allow me to find shallower (surface to 6" deep) targets faster. Sometimes a guy just wants to hit the newer parks for clad and Jewelry, you know what I mean.
