A 3 hour excursion into the woods turned out to be quite memorable today. I came across a vernal pool pretty deep in the woods, and decided to spend some time detecting around the water's edge with my AT-Pro. After just a few minutes I got a sweet, high tone ( VDI =89) at about 6 inches. It sounded perfect, and was thinking I had stumbled upon a large copper. After a careful extraction, the target turned out to be a 1875 S Seated Half Dollar! I was a wee bit excited to say the least! The 1959 D Washington quarter popped out of the ground about 50 feet away. Thanks for looking. HH.

Congratualtions on the beautiful big silver! :occasion14:

That is one terrific find in super dug condition, about equal to a gold coin in my book. Congratulations!!

Wow that thing is stunning....you must have been so psyched seeing that thing come out of the ground. A dream bucket list coin for sure. Congrats!

Don't know if I will make it to the Port- O- John in time if I ever dig one of those.
That is one beautiful coin.
CONGRATULATIONS

Very nice - bet the person who lost that in 1875 was disappointed...

Thanks to all for your kind, encouraging words. I greatly value and appreciate the feedback from fellow detectorists. There is some remarkable talent here on T-Net, and I'm just thankful to contribute a worthy post. Good luck to everyone and HH...you never know what's going to be at the bottom of the next hole.

The condition is amazing. Must have been pretty much UNC when lost.

That is one beautiful half !

That coin looks like it was dropped in 1875. An absolute stummer and a JACKPOT!!!

Excellent find. That's a big old silver you don't see everyday.

Congrats on a great looking Seated Half.
