I found this item at a secondhand shop and I have no idea what it is. It could be brass or pot metal. I can't see any markings on it either. It does come apart as shown in the photo. I thought it was a lamp finial, although have no clue as to how it would sit on a light. It's too light to be a doorstop as well, weighing a pound or so. I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

Well, what comes to mind is a wax seal or something like that...but the threading puzzles.
Good luck👍

To me it looks like a marriage of two separate items, which happens quite frequently. Might be the pictures but the color of the two pieces don't match, plus the flourishes are different.

The bottom piece could be from a lamp, or just about anything.

The top piece looks like it came from a tray/platter or something, similar to the below picture.

That looks logical.

Agree that the two parts don't belong together. The bottom part appears to be the base from a candlestick. The top part, a handle fitment from something for lifting.

I think your right. The top piece does look like it screwed onto a lamp. I didn't know what the bottom piece would be for but a tray makes perfect sense. Both pieces are the same color, it must have been the light in the room when I took the photo's. Thanks so much! Mystery solved. :)
