A cooler day today

Today was overcast with a high in the mid 70's, so it was a great day for a bike ride on the trails around here. I took a lot of pictures and deleted a lot also. I got kind of hung up on taking pictures of different wild plants today it seems. I did see some wildlife, but the cloudy skies didn't give me the best situation for photographing the ones I did shoot, so these are the daily snapshots I'll post today.

Well you shared some beautiful ones with us! I usually shoot about 200+ pics in a normal day. I spend wayyyyyy more time deleting and adjusting with photo software than I do actually shooting them.
Is the pic after that dragonfly some sort of yucca bloom or seed pod? Wildflowers are usually some of the prettiest flowers there are. :icon_thumright:

It's a Yucca seed pod. I read someplace that they were a part of the diet to Native Americans. I know the leaves have some very strong and useful fibers. You can also use the tip of the leaves as a needle leaving the fibers attached to the tip is like a ready made needle and thread. I saw that on one of those survival shows once.

Used to mow pastures that had Yucca. The mower blades would hit the Yucca and, instead of cutting, the Yucca would just be bent-over and stringy mess afterwards. Yes, very strong and tough.

When I was little I was told that was called buffalo tongue. Got older and found out the scientific name. You can pound up the root and use it as soap.
