Most of my early 1800's button finds are pewter.
They are military though.
How did you date that "1700's" button? Its one piece pewter I think but every other detail is gone except for the shank.

Well, I had a antiques and coin collector look at them, the one with the design is definitely copper...it shows on the edge of the button ( small scratch ) , the other is made from wood and that's why he said it was most definitely from the 1700's. Also where I found them is a public dirt road that has been in existence since the early 1700's although cars no longer drive on it that much because it is such bad condition. I couldn't even drive more than 200 yards into the road, and the road goes for about a mile.

Which leaves me to believe it was buried for a very long time! Even the antique/coin dealer was shocked and confused... I also.. So, I'm just going by what the professional told me... One is copper the other wood... Verified! Dates are in question, but I'll take the word of the expert.

I know a lot about buttons just not the type just found...

Wow, hey I'm sorry you don't believe me or my dealer... Just posting my findings and what I know about them. If I don't know I ask.. That is the first thing I did was post it in "What is it?" someone told me a dandy button, so I went and had it checked out! Please don't disrespect me or anybody else.

Also, I had to report the disrespectful and rude comments made by you and 1 other regarding this... I can't believe this is even happening...

Thank you... Please take a look at my postings, I always ask what it is if I'm not sure. If I'm told it's old I have it checked out.. My dealer is from the area ant know the history of the area..

I'm sorry you felt disrespected and felt the need to report this to the moderators.. I was going to post some very good info on buttons including "Dandy"

Isn't a north american artifact any artifact found in North America That's what I believe it is so I posted it... Get over it. Could have been worn by Indians.
