I took my grandson deer hunting today an didn't have much luck on bagging a buck, but on the way out I spotted a rock in the ground that just looked out of place. I have walked this trail a 1,000 times and I never saw it. Once I started digging around it I knew what we had found a double sided grinding stone. My grandson was some kinda stoked and it was super to find it with him on our camp at Jefferson County MS. 0110200934_HDR.webp0110201115.webp0110201116.webp0110201117_HDR.webp

Nice find who carried it out ?

Making an avid history buff out of the younger generation is grand, son....Congrats

Cool find .... even cooler to pass on this hobby to the next generation

Quite the recovery!

And ,when a hunt does not result in meat....Grain or mast crops can still feed a belly. (True story.) :laughing7:

Now you did it...
Now he will probably become addicted to the search like we all are.
Great find and I have no doubt he will never forget this day in the woods with you.

And so it begins, awesome! What a great hobby for a young man or girl to get in to. Best thing I heard all day!

To Cool! Its nice you can share your interests with him!!

I have a few archery deer stands along a bluff that overlook the sioux river on one side of them and the dirt I artifact hunt right there on the other side.
I have a hard time sitting very long in those stands.

Evetytime I’ve found one of those especially a nice one, they are always located far way from where I parked. But, I carry them out anyways. Never one up near the field road. You’ve good a really good one there!

Good find!! Even better when you have your sidekick there to share it with!!

nice find, great for the boy too.

Awesome find and memorable adventure with the grandson !
In that wooded context, do you suspect a pestle may be nearby?

Good hunt. Lol

I do think I can find more items there, but it will take some digging. Every ridge top in this area has numerous village site's, the MS. river ran along the base of these hills once.
