Haven't been out much in the last month due to the holidays and all the snow and cold, so don't have much to show. Need to start getting out and find some new sites as I'm itchin' for some colonial silver. Anyway, here's a few things I found at some old sites the last 2-3 times out. Does anyone recognize what that brass piece is in the 2nd photo? Good luck to everyone in 2011!

It is about time you got your Colonial butt back in the fields, Bill. :hello2: :laughing7: I was wondering where you have been. :dontknow: The 17th century buckle pieces are catching my eye. Keep hunting those sites with a passion. It is good to see you around.

Kirk :hello:

Nice digs! I think it is part of a very old door lock. Just a guess....

I agree. Part of a door lock.
Awesome relics!!!
Congrats to you,

You are in a good spot.

That is a real pretty button. Looks like you are in good soil conditions for relic health too.

hey bud i have recently located a few of the same items as you, but on a civil war battery only accesible by boat...they seem to be what could have been parts to a flag? ???-i found two together, u have any clues to what those circular objects are?...three items down-holding pipe up

Nice first hunt , many more for 2011 Bill , brass door part :icon_scratch: :dontknow: cool finds 8)

Bill, please get out and dig more often. Not for your sake but for mine!!
It is at this time of year that us poor northerners must dig vicariously through our Southern friends :laughing7:

P.S. You were right, Va Tech ran into a buzzsaw in Stanford.
However I'm sure you were pleased to see that WVU didn't fare any better ;D

I believe those are just brass tent grommets.

Great finds. Do the pipe stems come up with your plugs?

Pipe stems sometimes are eyeballed when digging, or sometimes they're just laying on top of the ground in the soybean field. But most of my pipe bowls and stems have come from digging out colonial trash pits. A few years ago I dug out more than 800 pipe stems and bowls from a single pit. Regardless of how you find them, they're common finds at colonial sites.
