Hello to all!

Another clear and sunny day in Michigan let me get out again. I had a game plan to hit some schools in a district that I have never been. I went to three different schools and all of them had pea gravel in the play areas so I didn't hunt them as my old trusty Garrett does not fair well normally in pea gravel. Fortunately, I had a backup plan also so I hit the last school in another district that was left on the list that I hadn't been to yet.

The playground was under construction but there was one nice size play area to cover. I found quite a few targets and found two keepers here. The first was a small 925 pendant with a large CZ stone. The second, a sweet 14kt earring. This is large a heavy and has a amethyst stone. Having a piece of gold in my pouch, I was happy for the day. There were a lot of trinkets here, a couple junk rings, 2 earrings, a pin, and 10 pendant/fobs.

I was on my way to try and find another school when I passed a small park with a couple nice play areas so I stopped in. This place was loaded and must not have been searched in a long while. I was only there an hour and was digging constantly. A couple nice keepers. First, by the swings a really pretty 10k gold ring popped out. It has a light blue stone, blue topaz maybe and a couple small diamond chips. Woowhoo!! Then a heart stopper, a very large tennis bracelet was found by one of the slides. It was silver colored and loaded with diamonds. Hoping it was gold and real diamonds, but no. It's hallmarked 925 and also CZ, but still a really sweet find, very heavy.

All in all, a great day. 3 hours hunting time, all the nice keepers, $8.62 clad with 178 coins.

Now the bad news... near the end of finishing covering the play areas at the park, my old trusty Garrett machine started acting up. It was pulsing false signals and I couldn't get it to work right while I was there. I will have to look at it today and try to get it working right again. I do have an ACE250 but I really love using the old machine in the woodchip areas as it lets my be a lot more efficient.

Best of luck to you all, HH! Thanks for reading! Here's a few photos of yesterday's fines.

Nice finds, BD. Looks like a productive day. I'll have to add a jet to my list of treasures to find.

HH

A good day yes, thank you!! There was probably more at the park but the detector malfunction slowed me down a lot, but I'll take what I did get for sure! No complaints here.

Once again, I am humbled by the master. LOL. :) Just a great day for finds. What sort of Garrett do you use? Please go back to all my posts and help me figure out what I'm doing wrong with mine ;D.

HH.

Mine is a 1980 old TR (transmitter/receiver) machine and it's really efficient (and loves jewelry) in the woodchips because it simply beeps over metal which makes pinpointing very fast and I search in non disc mode and dig everything in the chips. It's also not as sensative as the newer machines so I can get a little closer to the steel poles and other stuff then most and find quite a few things there that others have missed. Thanks Sheldius, good luck with your Garrett.

BDoo, you have a great combination for success - determination, a good machine, and lots of careless people in your area!!! ;D

You continue to amaze me with the jewelry finds as usual. I seem to have depleted all the school's wood chips in our district..I'll have to find more of these places outside of my boundaries.

Nat

Hi Nat!!
Thanks for the read and nice comment. I definitely get around. This day, I traveled about 20 miles one way to get to an area I never hunted before. It was worth it in the end I guess. Best of luck to you!

BDoo,

Awesome group of finds, but then again, what else can we expect when BDoo hits the chips? I'm curious about something you wrote. What did you mean about the older Garrett helping you be more efficient? I ran into a guy at the park the other day that had a higher end Garrett...seemed to have the same preset programs as my Ace250 but the scale was a bit "wider". It seemed like he had a bit more resolution, if this makes sense, because he had two or three notches separating foil from pulltab, pulltab to penny, etc.

I typically dig everything when hunting the parks, play areas. Am I working harder than I need to?

MP

Hi MP!! Sorry for the delay in answering.
MyGarrett is a 1980 Americana SX, TR (transmitter/receiver) machine and it's really efficient (and loves jewelry) in the woodchips because it simply beeps over metal which makes pinpointing very fast. There is no depressing a pinpoint button and sweeping north/south then east/west to pinpoint. I search in non disc mode and dig everything in the chips. I know the machine so well that I can usually tell by the sound of the beep if it's a good target and about how deep it is. It's also not as sensative as the newer machines so I can get a little closer to the steel poles and other stuff then most and find quite a few things there that others have missed. It's a lot smaller then the other Garretts of that time period so it's not real heavy. It doesn't have a forarm brace like all the detectors have now but it's well balanced and I am used to it. I have an ACE250 too and that is a great machine too but I bet I am 100% faster with the old trusty TR machine. That's the key to the amount of finds, speed and area covered verses hunt time along with the fact that the machine just loves coins and jewelry. I wrote an article that was published in the Feb 2007 edition of Western & Eastern Treasures magazine about my technics and hunting the woodchips.

I dig everything in the chips because it's such easy pickins and can average 100 to 200 digs an hour sometimes if the place is loaded with targets and trash. I always dispose of all my dug trash.

Thanks for the read and best of luck to you!!
