Can you image yourself swinging your coil in the calm, clear ocean waters behind the resort you're staying at and then it turns into the following true event:

1970, Grand Cayman Island, two guest at the Holiday Inn Hotel are snorkeling shallow water when one of them spots a shiny object in the sand in waist deep water. Before their trip is over they eventually uncover a thirteen foot gold chain, a gold cross covered with emeralds and diamonds, a large bar of platinum dated 1521, seven bars of silver, many pieces of silver jewelry, and more then 300 pieces of various Gold objects, including heavy gold disc, a gold bracelet in the form of a serpent covered with emeralds, more then fifty gold Aztec figurines, and one gold signet ring bearing the coat of arms to the De Leon family. This eventually lead to the discovery of the ship, Santiago, which was lost off Grand Cayman Island. The Captain of that vessel was the brother of Ponce de Leon.

Sort of makes you want to go detecting at the beach, don't it. :laughing7:

Yes it does. Yesterday would of been a decent day to try the water where I'm at, but didn't take the Shark, too rough for the GT. Didn't want to go back home for the Shark. Made plans to go this morning and it was rougher. Waiting for it to calm down a bit.

How many of you on this BB remember Cayman's 1970's tourism brochure for the "diving and jiving society." I wrote them and received a patch that says just that. Wanted to go wreck diving over there but college got in the way. I believe they were taking tourists to dive on one of the wrecks back then. Dive yes... salvage, probably not.

What would happen, if you found something of this value at a non lease site while snorkling off the beach in Florida?
