Yesterday afternoon I went back to the camp where I've had some luck and pulled out four great buttons. The first to come out has always been on my bucket list, a CSA coat button. A nice I coat button, a North Carolina Sunburst, and a convex Eagle I followed the CSA.
I have never found many buttons, so I'm very excited and I hope the luck continues. I was back at the spot this morning at first light and spent a couple of hours detecting before work. I didn't find any buttons but I did find a nice piece of a spur.

I hope you find many more. Preserving rare CSA relics are a noble deed. Great work.

clearly your onto a confederate infantry camp site along with a bit of cavalry as well ...the eagle I could be union or early confederate (many early confederate troops had state militia issued pre war USA supplied uniforms with union buttons on them)

I think that you are exactly right, there have been I and C buttons found here. The eagle I is a Horstmann 19.3mm convex button, it looks like the same button found on Harry Ridgeway's site and is in the infantry 1820's-1840's section....so you are right again on the pre-war uniforms possibility. Thanks, JB
