Hello treasurenet! Let me tell you about my arizona experience. It was the day of february 12th as it was cold in michigan and was on my way to chicago to stay the night as my friend was going to take me to Chicago ohare airport the following morning. I did some metal detecting on my way to chicago and found a arrowhead and 2 folding chairs out on lake michigan. Upon arriving on the evening of february 12th i was welcomed by my friend Fernando and his wife and cooked me up a Colombia style dinner as they are both from their. Got to sleep and woke up early around 6am for my flight was that morning. I borded up onto the flight and off to Arizona I go. Upon arriving the weather was perfect and sunny and so I had to take off 3 layers as I had on 5 or 6 layers of clothing being from cold michigan. I was excited and waiting for TimC to pick me up. I miscommunicated and told him the wrong airport but that didnt discourage us. After coming to Mesa the right airport I met Tim and off on our destination to Yarnell Arizona. Upon arriving I was welcomed and was shown my new home for the 2 weeks. A nice camper with a stove, fridge, microwave oven, food of all sorts, bathroom, shower, heater, and 2 beds. I settled in for the night as thinking how cool is this and how thankful I felt to have those two invite me out. I am a avid gold prospector looking always for the adventure and the learning of getting better at the finds. The following morning which would be feb 14th Tim came over and let me know the plans for the day. We ended up checking out the local history and some of his claims. A beautiful state. We ended up on the the 15th going to get some dirt from his claim. We made a video to show the prospecting of getting to bedrock and the proper cleanup. Hopefully the video shows up below. Did the clean up and got a few pieces of chuncky gold. I have a feeling that bedrock has lots more of chunky gold. On feb 16 we went to rich hill and checked out the LDMA camp and history. On the 18th we went out to the weaver claim as Terry suggested and it was a great suggestion as we dug up about 12 buckets of dirt and got some decent gold. We took the buckets back and ended up running them on the 19th. Gold in the pan! Excited to get back their i was ready to do some mining. The 20th came around and we did some more exploring and checking out mines etc. In the mean while met his neighbors and all nice people. The city of Yarnell is a great place to live with everyone knowing everyone and very friendly. At a elevation of 4250ft gets a little cold at night but in the day its nice. Terry suggested to Tim that we could load up the truck with the highbanker and set up shop on the 21st down on the weaver claim so we did so. Got their and set up and did digging dirt all day and stocked up to process the following day. I stayed on the claim for the next 4 days and it was a amazing time as I woke up to the dig site and was ready to mine every morning. I had met 3 other awsome miners 1 was a mining pro as I would call him named Dave. He is from alaska and taught me a bunch of things and he was averaging a 1/2 gram a day not working all day which was pretty good. Dave showed some pics of alaska and told some stories. The other guy Jeff was a new miner just signed up at LDMA but met Dave and Dan at the laundry mat and they invited Jeff to come down to weaver. Jeff hasnt left yet as he was getting gold pretty good their. Dan has been mining for the past 2 years and Dave has taught him along the way. All 3 guys where very nice as they invited me over every morning for coffee and the evening for dinner. Dan had even brought me coffee in the morning. They were about a 5 minute walk down the wash where i was at. So I ate with them the following days 21st-25th. I mined all day and visited them in the evening and many times they would come down to visit as i was loading dirt and processing it. So with Tim and Terry teaching me and the other 3 guys i learned alot about the area. All great people! All friendly and welcoming. After being out in the desert for the 4 nights and 5 days it was time to take the cons back and do a clean up. Got back to camp in yarnell and started panning around 2pm that day and finished 3 am the following morning. Ended up with about 1.5 grams which wasnt bad for 4 days of digging and just getting to know the area. Always remember set your highbanker right next to your dig spot so you can just shovel it in withough walking a fair distance and you will get more gold. Anyways the 26th it was almost time to leave as i headed back to the weaver to sell my gold before i left to a friend their. Sold it and said my goodbyes. Headed back up and spent some time with Tim and his neighbor Mike. Terry was always calling to make sure I was provided with food and was happy and he is very appreciated for all his kindness. The following evening headed to the airport as Tim took me and off I was. I had some time to spare befor my flight which was at 2am lol and ended up being delayed so i walked around and went to mcdonalds and even stopped at a park and did some detecting which later a guy road by on his bike and said you arent gonna find anything their as he already hit the area up and he was right i found 2 pennies haha. It was fun all around and I suggest anyone to check it out sometime. If you ever need some knowledge or have questions TerryC or TimC of treasurenet are always their to help and answer your questions.
I have pictures below and will add the videos shortly as i have to use youtube

That's what it's all about folks!

Tim C. Terry C. :notworthy:
You guy's are the best!

GG~

All I can say, Donovan, is you have certainly humbled me by your tenacity and excitement. I truly wish I was there! If you will forgive me for saying the following.... People, that vial contains the gold AFTER he sold some! He has a momento that will always bring back good memories! Humble, if I may speak for Tim AND I, it was a pleasure to have you aboard. Please come back, my friend! Terry.

Hwy89.webpSo there you have it, folks. I am glad to have met Donovan, if only by phone. Here is a pic that he has yet to post, taken from a few he sent back to Tim. It is of some buildings at the top of Hwy 89 as it comes up to Yarnell, AZ. Not visible from 89. The old 89 goes past these buildings. One appears to have been a church or one-room schoolhouse. NEAT! I am already thinking of coming back this summer for some dry washing. I hope I will get the chance to mine with you Terry. You guys have been great and very giving and you both have blessed me in words that cannot be explained. Thanks again! Theres gold in them hills people! Lots more there. I barely even put a scatch in the mound of dirt i was digging

I don't know, Don. You may wish to re-think summer. EVERYBODY here goes home during the summer. Really! You will DIE! This is desert. Real desert. The kind you see in movies. Parched bones. Ok, I'm laying it on a little thick but if you want to be OLD and foolish (like me) don't be YOUNG and foolish! But come on back, anyways! TTC

Maybe this fall then haha. I did here it get 115 in the summer. I can deal with 100 so maybe id hold off till the fall.

keepmehumblelord,
Just remember that in the summer in AZ the temperatures they quote are "in the shade" and that at least "it is a dry heat". Fall winter are much better times of year to visit any desert. Sounds like you had a really great time and T & T took good care of you. Happy Hunting...................63bkpkr

Thanks Don, for the good post. And.... "Y'all come back now, y'hear." PS.. Don't put all your gold in one pocket... you might fight yourself walking in a circle!

Sounds like you had a blast--and some wonderful hospitality to boot! I enjoyed your little write-up about your adventures too.

All the best,

Lanny
