A Last... and... A First
Greetings One and All ! I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday Season... For most of you that would be Christmas and New Years. Sometimes being “politically correct” is just ridiculous. Anyway, I don’t know if you all remember me or not, it’s been so long since I’ve posted here at the T-Net. <grin> Between the now infamous “Crash”, and then the long dry spell due to work, weather, and work... oh and the weather... did you know that it’s Winter already? Sheesh! Blink your eyes and the season changes on you. Damn! Winter came early here in the Bluegrass State this year... came early and SETTLED IN FOR A LONG COLD STAY it would seem. Didn’t get to get out and detect much and the one time I did I like to froze ! Needless to say, but it was a SHORT hunt indeed ! I did find stuff though.
December 17th was the last hunt for the year 2010 for this detector doggie. It was windy, cold and wet... mostly from the snow melting off of me as I tried to do some detecting at a local park. I probably could have found more, if I’d have stayed at it longer, but well... you know how that goes. What I found... was:
An assortment of clad, toys and trash, nothing really notable except for one foreign coin. I’m not sure if it’s a Chinese or a Japanese or some other Asian country’s currency, maybe someone reading and viewing this post can tell me...

It was cold out that day, to be sure, but I sucked it up and found a pair... balls that is... BASEBALLS... What did you think I meant? <giggle>

As you can see by the composite picture, I found a collection of hardware and even a battered ring. The dog tag is 20 years old or better, couldn’t tell you how old the piece of copper pipe was/is though. I found a new car that day... a race car! Vroom! And some other toys that were eyeball finds among the playground equipment.

All in all, my finds bag was not very full that day when I called it a day.

When I sorted it all out and finally got a count, I found that I at least had covered my gas for the day, that’s always a plus.

So Ended my metal detecting adventures for 2010. A low note perhaps, for a banner year for me. <grin> I can only hope that Twenty-leven will be as good. Hmmm... Perhaps... perhaps even better!
Today I braved the cold and got out the detector to give it a go. Even with full sunshine all day long, by early afternoon the temperatures only got up to 34 degrees here in Lexington, at least at my house. So, I bundled up and headed to one of my favorite parks, with lots of soccer fields, and because school is back in session... no kiddies! For about two hours I swung and dug and dug and swung... In spots the ground was a bit mushy from all the recent snow that melted last week, but mostly it was frozen on the surface to about an inch deep. Not too bad to dig through I guess. And dig I DID! I’d not hunted this particular soccer pitch and adjacent parking (grassy field) in nearly six months, and boy had it accumulated! Oh there were a few surprises amongst the pull tab, can slaw clutter and trash...

A couple of small buttons went into the finds bag...

And then there were the usual sort of eyeball finds...

.... and finally, the coins. <big smile> If this is any indication as to the prospects for this new year... 2011 might turn out to be a good year indeed!

Yeah... I think I covered my gas for the day... and for the next couple of outings as well. <grin> What’s more though is that I GOT TO GET OUT AND DETECT! I got my fix for a while. Just in time too, the weatherman on tv on the evening news was spouting predictions of more snow tomorrow night or the next morning. I have to work the next two days so I wouldn’t have gotten out to detect anyway, but I was hoping to maybe get in a little swing time this weekend. I’ll just have to wait and see now. I might just be swinging a snow shovel again instead of my detector. *sigh* Anyway... One can hope! Again, I hope you all had a wonderful and Merry Christmas, and had a Happy New Year’s Holiday as well. Best wishes for this year to come and as always...
