Went across town today to hunt the old pool (1925) & horsetrack. I believe the pool had become unuseable, though in researching I'd read where the city had plans to repair & reopen it. My sis stopped-by, and thankfully brought me some Gatorade (since I left home forgetting my water
)and said she thought it was open this summer, but closed early.
The horsetrack has been shut-down for years, and the track is nearly invisible, and the grandstands have since been removed. I believe alot of fill had been hauled in over the years, and of course it's full of trash. I found alot af deep beer cans & poptops, even automobile chrome trim. The ground around the track is like concrete (was gravel with years of dirt sifted & packed-in) making some spots impossible to dig, especially in the sun & heat. This site is also used for the city free-fair.
Anycase....I'm now paying the price with a sore back, hips, and my knees are killing me......lol, but it seamed worth it at the time. May be a week before I'm up to going again, but I'm lookin' forward to it. Supposed to get some rain this weekend, I hope it'll cool things off.
55- pennies (only 1-wheatie, lol and 1 painted blue), 3-nickles, 10 dimes, 5-quarters (one looking like it lost a battle with a lawnmower), and 1 token. Oldest cent was '53, the rest was basically clad. about 25% was laying ontop of the ground around the pool....and the outdoor payphone, where about 1/2 the dimes came from
I'm guessing this must just be a game token of sorts, maybe from a local Arcade?
