I got this free off Craigslist, as it was listed under the threat of it's destruction.
taken from private property with express permission.
this Sunday Past, July the 12th of our current year 2015.

I could not have turned my back on THIS Big Medicine!
knowing it would have been destroyed for home-renovations...or damaged by another's attempts to posses it?

This is a National Treasure!

Nice save! How old do they think thar artifact is? And what Native American tribe used this?

Does the exit stream slope downwards? If so, it might be something used to take shots out of. In college we used to get blocks of ice, prop them up at 15 degrees or so and then carve a stream down. Somebody would stand at the top and poor the liquor. The person at the bottom would be ready to have it pour into their mouth. Nice and chilled!

Maidu Native American from the West coast.
From Rocklin CA...

centuries OLD/to old to know it's age.
Maidu Native american

BOY THERE IS SOMETHING EDUCATIONAL .

That my friend is a magnificent piece of history. That is something that should be displayed for all to see and learn from. Pictures from a book can't touch something as special as that. Great save!

the Native american Smithsonian is going to review my proposal "this" July's meeting...
Like, it must have caught their attention fairly quick;-)

More like millenniums old! I'm happy that you saved it, I would have been sad to hear if it had to have been destroyed. That artifact if definitely a National Treasure, looks like something I would see at the Smithsonian museum.

I got a travel trailer for free once off CL
clean title/current reg, and good tires...needed tlc.
turned it into an Accord...
crashed the accord.
thought I'd never Top "THAT"

How will I ever top finding a National Treasure for free?
seriously though.

if they really wanted to save it, maybe they'd have tired?
the Maidu Museum here is a bit lax on it's preservation.
and they have no real need for a boulder in the main building I guess.

besides the FACT, that I have only once been to this museum/in my life-just this week.
an armed guard does a money exchange there Every Day?
or just the one day I happen to show up?
if their making that kind of cash.
where's the funds to save it on-site?

I will elevate this boulder's status to what it is, and should be recognized as.
THESE TWO ROCKS.....are A priceless National Treasure.
and I'll have it for at least a few weeks till the museums start calling back.
as THIS should be in a museum MR Jones!

Very cool. But can't help but wonder how the pestle was able to be kept with the Boulder for all that time. Was it unearthed together or was this a family piece? Any details on how the two stayed together. Could this be a banner?

Great Save Big Medicine. As a former Rocklin resident, I have seen many Maidu grinding stones in the local terrain and have a real appreciation for their history. I wonder if the city of Rocklin would display it in their new city hall? Sub 8-)

excellent thoughts...I will contact them.

Excellent recommendation...Thank You.
I WILL Contact them.

Wow! Great save! Unbelievable that they would try to destroy that.

In a country that prides itself on its history...sad to say I see more and more historic homes property and monuments being neglected if not destroyed all together. That is why I take seriously my role as "the hunter":laughing7:
