My friend Tim using his DRX doing a little recon recovered this Piece of silver in an area that has produced silver and gold over the last year for us. I did NOT find this, but am impressed with Tim's find!! He was using His DFX with the 8X14" DD coil!! The coin was probably 4 inches deep and was a 63 in his DFX!!

White's strikes again. :D What kind of site is this?

The area he found it in dates back to around 1804, but its all woods now but you can see the outline of an building. He is absolutely killer with that DFX and I hate to admit it, but Whites struck there!!

.....and probably quite a bit to the west of it too.

Foreign silver coins (mainly Spanish) circulated as legal tender in the young USA up to the 1850s due to the relative overall scarcity of US coinage. I forget the year, I think it was 1857 but am probably wrong, an act was finally passed declaring foreign coins as no longer legal tender and I believe that the Government even exchanged foreign silver for US coinage at that time. I read that at some point and I may not have it completely correct but it was something like that. (Now if I can only FIND some of it)

As another piece of trivia, a quarter of a piece of an 8-Reale coin was known as "two bits" because it was worth a quarter of it, or 2 Reales, which was valued at 12 1/2 cents US. And that has survived today when referring a quarter is referred to as "two bits". You know, like, "Shave and a Haircut, Two Bits!" It's falling out of use fast though these days. Only really OLD guys like (well, never mind who....you know who you are!) use it anymore.

So.....a very nice two bits...congrats!!!!!

That's a nice find.

The Dfx is a great unit with that coil on it.
