Detector(s) used
Tesoro Tiger Shark + Cheap Radio Shack + Whites DF PI + Aquasound
I did my 2 mile early morning walk around our subdivision today. I would have preferred to have been swinging my detector at the beach, but I would have to drive to do that, so maybe later. I tend to pick up trash on the road and nails and screws so I don't get a flat tire. I usually come home with some eye find coins every day. My wife says I am always treasure hunting even without my detector. I picked up what I thought was a button, but turns out to be a walking liberty half dollar. I have always wanted to find one of these, but not this way and not in this sad road kill condition. Since I mostly beach hunt, I don't find many old coins and this is actually my first silver coin even though it was an eye find. Ya'al who post the old coins make me envious. I guess the half was made into a piece of jewelry of some kind. There are screw treads inside the hole in the back. Button, Pin or Tie Tack?? I don't know. Thanks for looking and have a blessed hunting treasure day. Ralph

Still a great chunk of silver!! Maybe hit by a lawnmower or something? By the way good eye!!!

Looks like it got quite a pounding on the concrete or road, but it's still a chunk of silver.
Maybe the next one will be a gold tie tac. :icon_sunny:

I think it is real. They do make real conchos with coins as well as the fake ones. It has the look of a real silver coin.

The dream is dead! Proven a repro without a doubt by the righteous man! Good detective work, and sorry that it isn't real...

very nice job on the silver! Sorry about the condition of the coin :(

thats was better than my....buzz kill

Pete - real or not it's still a cool find. Look at it this way - at least you didn't dig eight inches through dirt, clay and chunks of rock to get it... ;D

- better than a pulltab any day!

I agree with my dog Nick... If you look close on your piece you can see where the silver leaf (plate) flaked off. Still a nice eye find, I think its cool they even make those.

Good eye,

Keep @ it and HH!!

Nick,
Thanks for the facts. I had no idea they made concho pieces like this. The web link supports your case, and then to pull one off your wife's purse with the same date. You da man!! Your wife's is in much better shape than mine. I actually thought that the black marks on the front were from the asphalt road, but perhaps it is plated. I tried to straighten it out and it cracked at the bend, so maybe it is pot metal, but it is heavy. It is possible that it was hit by a lawn mower, but it was definetely run over several times by a car. I am actually glad it is a fake, I thought it might have been very special to someone who was maybe born in 1943, but now it is just another find.

Thanks for looking ya'al and I guess I will have to keep searching for my first walking liberty half. Ralph

Sweet find
But i stick with nick! concho piece for sure

It even has the same date ... She buy's them at Hobby Lobby ...

Sorry petersra - It was fun while it lasted, I'm sure. You'll find the real deal - just keep swinging.

Now I'm off to Hobby Lobby to adorn my favorite hunting hat!!! :tongue3:

Looked like a bullet hole at first, but yeah that thing is destoryed, but don't get rid of it. It's a keeper in any condition.

Hey, big silver is big silver!! Thats a great find!
