Well, that is definitely more than a handful, and I see a few nice looking knives in the first photos. Very Nice!

Tell John, Merry Christmas and Thank You for his kindness. :notworthy:

Hey larson1951!! FANTASTIC!! You guys amaze me with the finds up there!! CONGRATS!! Thanks for sharing!! MERRY CHRISTMAS and GOOD HUNTING!! VERDE!!

:angel3: Well now, good to see someone else knows the joy of going through hundreds and hundreds of scrapers.

Now I know how you are able to share artifacts with everyone!! That's cool! How many times do you suppose a scraper was used before getting tossed? It just seems like they were almost a disposable tool.

Scraper-Nanza!!! Some real schweetness in there!

Jeb Taylor did some replication studies on these tools, and he said they lasted about thirty minutes removing hair from buffalo hides. I don't know how many times they were re-sharpened in those 30 minutes though.

They were halfted into elk horn scrapers, and when they got to short, they were dicarded. I would imagine you could have more than one person working on a hide, and with their short working life that may help explain the abundance of themcute little scrapers.

Thanks Quito. That does make perfect sense. They couldn't have been used many times in order for so many to be found. It amazes me how much work they put into some of them. Thanks for the info. That's what T-net is all about !!

Here is how they were often halfted, pictured in Jebs book, they were sharpened while halfted, You can see from my examples that they start out long, and end up short. After re- reading the chapter, I saw it was 15 to 30 minutes is all they lasted, and the exausted ones were often used as hand held scrapers for smaller tasks.
