We been wanting to get out for a long while, so finally today I took a half day off from work to give about a hour or so at a new site I been working on. We found a couple nice finds but Hillbilly found the best finds of the day, a 1833 large cent and a Eagle button with a bugle and 17 stars. when I first seen it I thought it was some variant of a War of 1812 riflemans button, but I am not for sure. any help on properly iding it would be most appreciated. Thanks, Bill

Great to hear from ya!!!Thought you and him fell off!!!Great digs too

Nice find!! Albert's book lists this as RF 23: Rifles, Militia 1-piece. "The device, eagle above, 17 five-pointed stars. Backmark is 4 five-pointed stars. 24mm. RV50." The rarity value of 50 means that this is NOT a common button to find. Don't think I've seen a rifles button with eagle posted on Tnet before. Killer find there for the old Dog HB!

Hill Billy Bich is back, got my sniffer going again.
It's been over a year since I have been out swinging and man did I enjoy it.
I'm going to have to buy lunch more often... ask Quindy.

Bill, thanks for the short hunt yesterday, those finds make up for lost time in the fields.
I'll let you buy lunch today, then I'll go dig a gold coin:thumbsup:.

Very cool! That button looks like a Rifles Militia button pictured as #23 on page 79 0f Alberts book.

With a button like that HB, lunch on you for 12 months-LOL. HH, Q.

Nice finds  That lime green might look like a nice colour, but it looks like the start of Bronze disease, which could eat into the coin, and button.
