A Tuesday Afternoon Walk in the Woods: Lots of Silver!

Greetings All- I was happy to get out into a new section of woods for a couple of hours this afternoon. Things started out very slow, but then I stumbled upon a quarter signal ( VDI=95) with my Deus 2.
Turned out to be a very worn SLQ. I love the design on these coins, but its always frustrating when the date is missing

I was surprised to find this coin where I did.... off trail, lots of fallen trees, etc. I was even more surprised when five more silvers joined the party from roughly the same spot.

I haven't enjoyed a six silver hunt in a very long time. Dates included: 1937 Merc ( x 2), 1942-S Merc, 1948 Rosie, 1956 Rosie, and the no date SLQ. I also found a bunch of wheaties, some suspended pieces, and a fair amount of lead

I'm looking forward to a return visit to the spot. If I do a little landscaping, I think I will be able to pull out a few more coins. Thanks for looking and HH!

I think those two mercs at the top make up for your worn quarter. Especially the one at top right. Your pic isn’t super clear but I can see the bands on the fasces on the reverse.👍🏻

Looks like a great spot to detect, just need to pull a few limbs and trees around to get every foot detected.

the SLQ had such a relatively short run of years minted, any time one comes out of the ground it's treat even if the date is worn off. You had great results there. Hopefully a return trip will have great results too.

What was it about the spot that made you want to hunt there? Did you know something was there before?

This spot is within a larger (1000+ acres) state forest. Over the years I have slowly been working through different sections and having pretty good luck. I thought this area might be productive given that it was relatively close to a trail head. I could imagine groups of hikers/ boy scout troops might gather there to relax before/ after a hike. Who knows, but it certainly saw a lot of activity during the 40's and 50's.

Congrats on a 6 silver day. Don't be frustrated that the SLQ doesn't have a date, that's the norm because it was the highest point on the coin and it typically wore off first. Out of the dozen or so that I have found, only 2 of them have very nice clear dates, the rest are smooth. They are always a nice coin to dig though.

Nice finds. Back in the 60's I was into coin collecting. At that time there was a product being sold that would bring out the dates in the SLQ and the buffalo's. I wonder if that product is still around?
