Got out for a few hours in the heat today and only managed a mini ball until I finally got a deep good reading. The ground was like concrete and I was sweating like an ex husband at a child support hearing, but I kept digging. I was determined to see what the heck it was and finally, about a foot down, I see green. I started taking pictures of it as it was unearthed and you can see it as I did. Finally After about a half hour, I open the hole enough to pull out a US cartridge box plate. It was worth all the work ....[emoji16]

Those pictures of gradual recovery exposing the green patina on that plate are awesome. I value such pictures as much as the find itself because they really capture the moment of discovery. Terrific find! :hello2:

Thank you! After all that work, when I first saw the green show up I thought to myself that I’d better document this. I’m glad I did, especially after it turned out to be a good find.

Huge congrats!! That's the reward for your effort, the odds of a plate hiding there under that "concrete" probably weren't very good....a beautiful box plate.

The odds that it was something good wasn’t in my favor, but as my southern relatives used to say, sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. [emoji6]

Well done on getting it out-without a hit. Hard earth is no fun to dig in that's for sure. Congrats it's a beauty.

What a crazy good find! Major congratulations to you sir!

The face of the plate had a lot of spotty green verdigris on it, so I decided to clean it some. Here’s the finished product, looks pretty good.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1595717073.879267.webp
