Found this in a dry river bed in north Scottsdale az. Very strange and there is like a crust of rusty metal on the back like its burnt. It's has little crystals and shiny goldish flakes everywhere around the iron crust on back and it's magnetic. Possible meteorite???? Really cool rock

Have seen this before with a UT geology prof on a field trip. Think it's a fossil clam shell with deposition of iron pyrite on it. The iron rusts, the pyrite shines...

that would be cool but this is def a stone completely solid and very dense rather heavy for its size

It is attracted by a magnet?

Lots of rocks are attracted by a magnet, but few are magnetic.
To test for magnatism hang a needle by a thread and see if the needle moves when the rock is brought near.
If it does then your rock is magnetic.

yes both sides are attracted to that crust on the back really attracted

I think you may have misunderstood my question. Using an independent magnet of some sort, will the magnet pick up your item?

If so, there is a slight possibility that you have a meteorite. There is a chance that the crust may be fusion crust created by extreme heat as the object interred the atmosphere.

No offense but I believe it is just a iron ore concentration which might have some sandstone mixed into it. But Im no expert its just a guess, rock
