I found this Adena in a tobacco field just outside of Lexington, KY.

Thanks Jim! It is symetrical on both sides. The artisan who made it definitely put a lot of work into it. I'm surprised it did not get dinged by the plow and disk.

Hey Abbey! That was one of those badly needed confidence builders! The dirt was still loose from a lack of rain and I hadn't really found anything after about 60 rows. I would love to see a good soaking rain come in for a day. I'm sure that I stepped over a few and never knew they were there.

Thanks Country Girl! I'm lucky to have a good field to hunt. It's hard to believe that I have been hunting this field off and on for 30 years (I started hunting when I was 10)and it still keeps producing.

WOW!! Real nice find! I know there are plenty of great fields in KY. still producing. I,m no expert on flint types,though I have just recently became very motivated in learning more cause it seems I find so many big chunks of different flints and other material around here. I have KY. finds made of same flint . i,ll have to read up and see if I can find something. none the less congratulations on a great find Jeff

They are cutting and housing tobacco in Central KY now. I'm going to walk my field early tomorrow morning before it gets blistering hot. I'm hoping to find another Adena like this one. A lot of Adena points have been showing up in the field this year. I just might get lucky again.
I found out some info on the Adena people in a book that I bought. It said that the average Adena male was about 6' 5" tall and the average Adena female was about 6' tall. I guess at my height of 6' 2", I would be called "short stuff". They got this info by measuring the skeletons found in some of the burials years ago. They also had a heirarchy, which had rulers and "upper class" citizens. Then they had the "working class" citizens. This, in my opinion, could have led to their downfall as the "lower class" citizens probably got fed up with the rulers and "upper class". This could have sparked a revolution of sorts which caused an overthrow of the ruling class. The Adena people seemed to disappear from the landscape. A lot of them were probably absorbed into other tribes or maybe they formed new tribes. We can only speculate.
