Advise on river hunting.

some questions regarding water hunting, rivers etc. Do you seek out bed rock areas if your looking for a spot? If you find an old swimming hole on a river do you hunt the entire area or steer clear of the sand and gravel beds etc? Looking for old fords and swimming holes in rivers and creeks I find if I hunt anywhere but the bedrock hard pan areas I dig cans and bottle tops 1-2 feet deep. Any advise would be appreciated.

rivers are like beaches to me - each one is different

in fact hit a swimming hole in one the other day - bed rock areas were clean cause water was so clear - anyone would be able to see something shining on the bottom
coins were found in the sand and gravel areas
